So, I feel into a pretty deep archeological internet hole the other day around 2 am and this is what I came up with: Today's episode of Occulture Shock goes deep into one of the strangest gaps in ancient Egyptian history: the disappearance of the Benben stone. This artifact was once the most sacred physical object in ancient Egypt And then it vanishes. Just POOF! There one minute, gone the next. In this episode, we break down what the Benben likely was, how it Egyptian construction and design for thousands of years, and why its influence shows up everywhere in Egyptian architecture. Hello Seekers, In the 1970s and 80s, spiritual leader (and talking head on In Search Of w/ Leonard Nimoy - one of the best TV shows of all time), Elizabeth Clare Prophet built a movement around the idea that sge was receiving messages from enlightened beings known as Ascended Masters. At the center of those teachings was one of the most mysterious figures in occult history - The Count of Saint Germain. Her grassroots organization (later called Church Universal and Triumphant) grew to become a massive spiritual community out in Montana preaching good vibes. BUT, during the height of the Cold War, the messages she claimed to be reciving started to take a darker and more menacing turn... Hello Seekers! Tonight's episode covers one of my favorite topics - Government espionage and conspiracy! WOO-HOO! Specifically, one of the strangerst relics of Cold War Intelligence: Numbers Stations. For decades, shortwave radio listeners around the world have reported hearing anonymous broadcasts where a voice calmly reads strings of numbers into the airwaves. There's no station identification. Just a string or groups of seemingly random numb ers, sometimes proceeded by music or a tone, and then....nada. These broadcasts are almost certainly tools of espionage (and I want to know how to get that job)! So, sit back, relax and get weird with us!

Hello Seekers! I've taken a hard left content-wise today and shifted gears into something that captured my imagination - and that is my absolute fascination with fortune telling and pre-cognition. Since I was little and read about Lincoln's Ghost Train from a Time Life Book: Mysteries of the Unknown volume, I've been obsessed with people being able to foretell the future. Today, on the Occulture Shock Podcast, I've cobbled together a short list of some of my favorite incidents, along with a little background on each. For example: Did you know... that England had a Premonitions Bureau that was responsible for some of the most scientifically documented incidents of premonition in the world? Did you know...that a man from Dublin trained in India to read palms and was so good, he amassed a fortune and, although now he is somewhat forgotten, almost all of his palmistry books are still in print and available? And speaking of books...did you know...that the sinking of the Titanic was foretold YEARS beforehand by an author writing about an unsinkable ship meeting its demise in the cold North Atlantic waters? When Dion Fortune clashed with Moina Mathers inside the Alpha et Omega, questions of authority, publishing, control, as well as gossip regardig the legitimacy of personl threats felt on both sides of the divide were brought into question. We talk about the origins of Fortune's opus, Psychic Self Defense, and why this particular conflict got a little spiteful. There is documented history to be found here and tea to spill surroundig two notable women occultists navgating belief in a system that wasn't structured to handle disagreement or independance very well. Hello Seekers! This week on OSP, we dive headfirst into one of the most infamous occult brawls (physically AND spiritually) of the mmodern era: Aleister Crowley v/s The Heremtic Order of the Golden Dawn. This episode is all about ego, secrecy, power and what happens when everyone and their mom want to control the access to "ancient hidden knowledge." Specifically, we will be unpacking the Blythe Road incident and how Crowley may have lost the battle when he got his a$$ kicked out of their clubhouse but definitly won the war when it came to everlasting notoriety. There's gossip here, some weird history and a lot of toxic human behavior in between. Cochrane? Witchcraft is part of nature. It's wild. It's in your blood...you either have it or you don't. Both men were incredibly formative within modern day witchcraft/Wicca, both were also SUPER gate-keepy in their own particular ways and both argued different sides of the same coin (IMO). The week on Occulture Shock - Wizard Wars I'm digging into the fracture between Gerald Gardner and Doreen Valiente: the founder who went public to protect witchcraft and the woman who helped to write it.... ....only to then walk away when Gardner's mythology making started outweighing honesty and power plays were rife within the coven. This is not an episode of blind hero worship. This is a sharp (but hopefully, fair) look at how modern witchcraft was shaped by real human beings with real human egos and why questions of validity still haunt the practice today. First on our list comes straight out of the Alpine regions of Northern Europe - Krampus and Grýla. In the mountains of Austria and the lava fields of Iceland, the gifts the winter spirits came with were horns, claws and a very clear message: behave....or else!
