All are welcome! Amjad Tarsin was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He obtained his Bachelors of Arts at the University of Michigan in English Literature and Islamic Studies. After completing his BA, Amjad spent an intensive year studying at the illustrious Dar al-Mustafa for Islamic Sciences in Tarim, Yemen. He then enrolled at Hartford Seminary’s Islamic Chaplaincy program where he completed his Master’s Degree. He previously served as the Executive Director and Head Chaplain of the Muslim Chaplaincy at the University of Toronto, becoming Canada’s first full-time Muslim Chaplain at a university in September 2012. In addition to his administrative duties and leadership responsibilities, he counselled and taught students. Ustadh Amjad currently is a faculty member at Al-Maqasid, and he also teaches for SeekersGuidance Online Islamic Seminary.

The Founding Director of Al-Maqasid, Shaykh Yahya envisions the facilitation of Islam, Iman, and Ihsan through immersion in the Prophetic Inheritance. His educational journey began at the traditional school of Murabit al-Hajj in the desert of Mauritania shortly after his conversion, setting the foundation for a life dedicated to the realization of Islam, Iman, and Ihsan. The concept of Al-Maqasid emerged from Shaykh Yahya’s own journey, which continued at the acclaimed school Dar al-Mustafa in Tarim, under the guidance of the renowned scholar and spiritual guide Habib Umar Bin Hafiz. Graduating from Dar al-Mustafa and returning to the United States, Shaykh Yahya pursued studies in various academic institutions, culminating in a PhD in Theology and Religious Studies from the University of Cambridge, England. Shaykh Yahya believes in the necessity of building sound educational institutions that effectively nurture the realities of Islam in the lives of believers, enabling them to reach their full potential as human beings. He has dedicated his life to teaching and helping others put their knowledge into practice for the benefit of themselves and humanity. All are welcome! Amjad Tarsin was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He obtained his Bachelors of Arts at the University of Michigan in English Literature and Islamic Studies. After completing his BA, Amjad spent an intensive year studying at the illustrious Dar al-Mustafa for Islamic Sciences in Tarim, Yemen. He then enrolled at Hartford Seminary’s Islamic Chaplaincy program where he completed his Master’s Degree. He previously served as the Executive Director and Head Chaplain of the Muslim Chaplaincy at the University of Toronto, becoming Canada’s first full-time Muslim Chaplain at a university in September 2012. In addition to his administrative duties and leadership responsibilities, he counselled and taught students. Ustadh Amjad currently is a faculty member at Al-Maqasid, and he also teaches for SeekersGuidance Online Islamic Seminary.

What does it mean to take the Quran as a friend? Join us at ICNYU as we welcome Dr. Rania Awaad for a night of reflection on the importance of building a relationship with the Quran. Rania Awaad, MD is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Stanford University School of Medicine where she is the Director of the Stanford Muslim Mental Health & Islamic Psychology Lab as well as Stanford University's Affiliate Chaplain and Affiliate Professor of Islamic Studies. In the community, she serves as the President and Co-Founder of Maristan.org, a holistic mental health nonprofit serving Muslim communities, and the Director of The Rahmah Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating Muslim women and girls. In addition, she is faculty of Islamic Psychology at Cambridge Muslim College and The Islamic Seminary of America. She is also a Senior Fellow for Yaqeen Institute and the Institute of Social Policy and Understanding. Prior to studying medicine, she pursued classical Islamic studies in Damascus, Syria, and holds certifications (ijaza) in the Qur’an, Islamic Law, and other branches of the Islamic Sciences. Aisha (RA) is one of the great hadith narrators who kept the speech of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (PBUH), alive by memorizing his words during his lifetime and teaching them to others after his death. The narration of prophetic speech is among one of the most important tasks in Islam. Without the preservation of prophetic speech, each generation would be more and more confused as to what it means to live an ethical and moral life in accordance with the pleasure of God. Join us as we learn more about the legacy of scholarship set forward by our mother, 'Aisha (RA). Ustadha Nuriddeen Knight will be speaking on her book, "40 Hadith of Our Mother 'Aisha", an English compilation of 40 sayings (hadith) from the Prophet Muhammad, peace to him narrated by 'Aisha (RA), may God be pleased with her. Nuriddeen Knight completed an MA in psychology with a focus on child and family from Columbia University. Alongside her academic degree, she studied traditional Islamic knowledge including Islamic law, theology, spirituality and prophetic biography with local scholars and in the majalis in Amman, Jordan.
