Fractures
Did you know that there a several different types of fractures?
- Closed – skin intact
- Open/Compound – bone pierces skin
- Transverse – broken straight across
- Spiral – fracture from twisting force
- Comminuted – multiple pieces of bone
- Impacted – from vertical force on long bone
- Greenstick – incomplete fracture, common in children
- Oblique – diagonal fracture
- Displaced – bones no longer aligned
It is important for you to understand the different types of fractures and how to treat your patient accordingly.
