Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will meet with Danish and Greenlandic foreign ministers at the White House on Wednesday. Hours before the meeting, President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that anything less than Greenland "in the hands" of the United States would be "unacceptable." Trump wrote that America needs Greenland for its national security. He added that NATO would be far more formidable and effective with Greenland in the hands of the United States.

Trump said on Tuesday that the federal government would suspend payments to so-called sanctuary cities that defy federal immigration enforcement, starting on Feb. 1. Since reclaiming the Oval Office, Trump has made immigration enforcement a priority for his administration and already made similar bids to defund sanctuary jurisdictions. So far, however, he has been blocked from doing so in federal courts.
