President Trump doubled down on the need for federal intervention as he deployed active-duty Marines and additional National Guard troops to Los Angeles. He also warned of “heavy force” if protests spread to this weekend’s military parade in Washington. While tensions have eased in downtown Los Angeles, officials are preparing for a fifth consecutive day of demonstrations.
On Capitol Hill, lawmakers pressed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on the administration’s decision to deploy troops to L.A. during a hearing on defense spending for the next fiscal year.
At least 10 people were killed in a mass shooting at a school in Austria. Eleven others were wounded, and one victim remains in critical condition. Authorities say the alleged gunman, a 21-year-old male, died by suicide. The motive for the attack is still unknown.
