What happened inside MLB during 9/11 attacks

Today's word of the day is 'surreal' as in what happened on September 11, 2001. Let me walk you through what happened that day when I was vice president of the Montreal Expos. We'll talk about what went down that day inside baseball; from conversations with the government to the discussions that were had behind-closed-doors in MLB. --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. What else is 2020 going to throw at us?

Today's word of the day is 'apocalypse' as in what else is going to happen this year as in coronavirus as in hurricanes as in west coast wildfires. We live in one of the most insane years ever and it just keeps getting crazier. With the NFL season about to kickoff tonight, this weekend the San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals, but THE SKY IS RED! The air quality is so poor because of the fire that the game might not happen (0:06). Steve Nash is the new head coach of the Brooklyn Nets. It's a big hire because he's a former 2-time NBA MVP. A question came up at his press conference about 'white privilege' and let's discuss his response (9:53). Review - I'm Thinking of Ending Things (20:15). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me my thoughts on Justin Timberlake being added to a group trying to expand MLB into Nashville following my thoughts on Jennifer Lopez and the Mets. Let me take you to business class very quickly. How does the sale of authentics work for teams (27:00)? The Milwaukee Brewers claim their sales are down and the Atlanta Braves say their sales are up. Hmm (32:15). Bubble talk! Bubble talk! Some Lakers players are upset about late-night games and not enough time off. The GM for the Jazz wants to adapt the bubble scheduling to the regular season. Let's look at the NBA trying to take a page from MLB playbook and why it likely won't work... or will it (39:15)? #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. It's time for JLo and Arod to give up on their New York Mets dream

Today's word of the day is 'dinero' as in the green, the money, the cash flow. We all just want that dinero. Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are back in the news again because they won't give up on their dream to buy the Mets. Even though Steve Cohen has gotten the exclusive right to buy the team. Why is this important? Because some of the things they said they would GUARANTEE if they bought the Mets were RIDICULOUS! Let me explain (0:06). Politicians sent letters to Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren and to the Big Ten presidents. I've dealt with a ton of politician letters in my time. Here's what happens (14:07). Leonard Fournette said for the first time in his career he has a QB to play with. I didn't appreciate him saying this. Not because it could be true, but because there's no need for it (24:00). What could be the biggest threat to an NFL season this year? Injuries. Same thing with MLB. I had told you listeners that MLB players weren't ready. I don't think NFL players are ready either (29:54). Review - Mulan (37:15). Let's end today with some NBA talk. How good are the Miami Heat? Did anyone see the Milwaukee Bucks going home this soon? We did here. Because the bubble is located in Upset City, USA (41:40). #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Serving you a Labor Day Weekend sports update (9/8)

Today's word of the day is 'default' as in what happened to Novak Djokovic as in he got the boot from the U.S. Open for hitting accidentally hitting a line judge in the throat with a tennis ball (:06). This was the story of the sports weekend. It's been quite the summer for tennis bad boy. Will this hurt The Joker from catching Roger Federer? I need to address something that happened last Thursday. We were wrong to jump on a story that we thought was credible and it turned out to not be. We're referring to the Penn State athletic doctor and his report on covid-19. It seems like there was confusion on the public's part and we reported on that (10:10). The one thing I will say is this was not political. It was commentary on what was happening. Review - Love (18:45). What has happened to the New York Yankees (23:30)? They have become a complete disaster recently. Currently sitting at the 8-seed. S.O.S! IF this team doesn't make an expanded postseason...... What else happened in baseball this weekend? Max Fried, hurt. Eric Hosmer, hurt. Javy Baez is very upset with not being allowed to use the replay-review system during games. Just another weekend in MLB. So You Wanna Talk To Samson (31:30)!? Someone asked me how Nationals GM Mike Rizzo could possibly be thrown out of a game for not wearing a mask IN A STADIUM SUITE! Let's talk about umpire Joe West. WOOF! Let's finish today's show talking about Lionel Messi (42:45). He announced that he will be staying in Barcelona for at least this final season on his deal. Will he ever sign another deal with Barcelona again? #waittosee Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

What not to say: David Tepper & Kirk Cousins edition (9/3)

Today’s word of the day is ‘selfless’ as in David Tepper, owner of the Carolina Panthers, made some staff cuts, BUT, he did it for them! That’s according to him. He said these are difficult times, but the cutting of someone’s position is better for them because ’it’s not good to have an individual sit idle for a year,’... excuse me (0:12)? Kirk Cousins made headlines yesterday for his comments about the pandemic and wearing a mask. He responded the ole Ivan Drogo way.. If I die, I die. Cousins decided later on in the day to walk back some of his comments (11:20). Review - Big Time Adolescence (26:28). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me if I ever remember a manager candidate declining publicly that they weren’t a candidate, but they were actually a candidate (28:55). Okay. Let me get this out there right now... Aaron Boone would not have his pitchers throw at the Rays. He wouldn’t do it. Aroldis Chapman and Kevin Cash were always getting suspended (35:52). Penn State’s director of Athletic Medicine just dropped some breaking news about coronavirus. It is damning evidence against why the Big Ten are NOT playing football this fall. Will anyone trust science now (41:55)? #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. The new AL East Rivalry: Yankees v. Rays? (9/2)

Today's word of the day is 'headhunting' as in the Yankees and Rays now have some big time beef. Aroldis Chapman threw a 101 mph pitch at a Rays players' head and that was enough. Benches cleared after the game. And Rays manager Kevin Cash did NOT hold back with his comments on the Yankees (0:06). What about the old Yankees rivals? We're talking Boston Red Sox. What did they do yesterday to stir the pot with their fan base? Well, they tweeted out a meme about the 'reset' of the luxury tax. Uh oh. Let's talk about the troubles of that tweet and what exactly the luxury tax is (8:15). What happens when a manager is 'blindsided' by a trade? Detroit Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said that happened to him in the Cameron Maybin trade (17:47). Review - Bill & Ted Face The Music (24:30). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about the title on a player of being 'injury prone' being not fair to the player, but more indicative of the medical/training staff and ownership (28:30). CONFERENCE CALL TIME! Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren received a phone call from President Donald Trump about trying to get college football this fall. WHAT?!?!? Will this play any factor in the decision to play Big Ten football this fall? Roger Goodell talked about fan in the stands again. This time it was about 'competitive advantage'. He said there is no advantage for having fans in the stands.... huh (35:30)? #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. THE BIG TEN IS BACK! ... in the news again

Today's word of the day is 'discovery' as in a lawsuit by Nebraska football players against the Big Ten conference. Is football going to come back this fall? Well, President Donald Trump said he wants to see it happen. Let's go to law school (0:06). Dan Snyder has been a content machine for this show. Not in a great way. The Washington Football Team is now being investigated by the NFL because of MORE allegations about the culture of the team. Disaster (13:10). What's happening with Real Salt Lake? Remember we talked about about the owner Dell Loy Hansen and if MLS would force him to sell? Remember? Well he's selling (19:34). Review - Drunk Parents (26:00). MLB made a very quiet announcement today and we need to fill you in. It has to do with Minor League Baseball. Let's shine a light on this. It isn't pretty (29:00). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me my thoughts on why I think the NBA has set the bar on social issues (42:05). #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Bonus Pod: MLB Trade Deadline Winners & Losers

You knew you were going to get an MLB Trade Deadline bonus pod! Let's go through some winners and losers of the deadline. Loser alert! The Texas Rangers opened a new ballpark this year and had to become sellers. The New York Yankees didn't make a move! What!? The Cleveland Indians traded away Mike Clevinger! WHY!? How about the winners? The San Diego Padres are the big winners of the deadline. Landing the big fish in Mike Clevinger was the move. This team is ready for October. You all think I hate on the Marlins.. I don't! The Miami Marlins are winners! A deal for Griffin Conine was good. Getting Starling Marte was good! For some teams not making a move is makers you a winner. The Los Angeles Dodgers were that. They are that good, no need to make a trade. --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. San Diego Padres blockbuster deal on Deadline Day (8/31)

Today's word of the day is 'Monty Hall' as in Let's Make a Deal as in it's MLB trade deadline day. So what goes down during the trade deadline? What are teams doing? Well, the San Diego Padres had a very busy weekend. They made a blockbuster deal for Cleveland Indians starter Mike Clevinger. The Padres were in on plenty other deals too. Will this work out for the team? How did Mike Clevinger make his way out of Cleveland? What are the Indians doing? Last year it was Trevor Bauer, this year it's Mike Clevinger. Bad teams stay bad by doing bad deals (0:06). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me to update on the sale on the New York Mets now that Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are out of it (19:19). Let's honor Chadwick Boseman, Cliff Robinson, and John Thompson (29:30). Review - The Binge (35:40). Ending the show with some New York Yankees talk. How much trouble is this team in? More specifically, how much trouble is Brian Cashman in (39:10)? #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. New York Mets incompetence is nothing new (8/28)

Today's word of the day is 'sampson' as in misspelling my name as in Brody's as in how the New York Mets misspelled Brodie Van Wagenen's name in a press release last night. Why was a press release warranted? Well, Brodie got caught on a live mic talking poorly about MLB commissioner Rob Manfred and owner Jeff Wilpon. What a disaster. How as this leaked? IT WASN'T! The Mets 'accidentally' posted the feed onto the team's website. Woof (0:06). The NBA continues to get things right. Regardless of what your view is on them, just listen to me here. Games will be played on Saturday. After two days of protest. After countless meetings. After getting tangible action items listed. Let's hope change soon comes. But something happened in one of those meetings that needs to be talked about. Patrick Beverley said something so disrespectful to union boss Michelle Roberts that Chris Paul, Udonis Haslem, and other players had to put him in check. Wow (16:55). Review - Lean on Pete (28:20). For the first time in NPDS history - we have the best statement released of all time by a team... the Baltimore Ravens (32:55). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me if I think that the owner of the Real Salt Lake MLS team should be forced to sell his team after his most recent comments about players protesting (38:30). #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. The night the sports world stopped (8/27)

Today's word of the day is '2020' as in it has been a year to remember and a year to forget. Last night the Milwaukee Bucks decided to boycott Game 5 of the NBA Playoffs. What happened after that was historic. NBA games were postponed (0:06). MLB games were stopped (27:25). WNBA games weren't played. NHL went on business as usual (32:42). Meetings were had. Phone calls were made. Let's walk through what happened and what happens next. From players to owners and everyone else. Is a potential boycott going to happen in the NBA? (8/26)

Today's word of the day is 'boycott' as in NBA players are meeting to talk about potentially sitting out games of the playoffs. Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet was very open about his thoughts on how troubling things are to have to focus on playing basketball right now. Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart spoke about a potential boycott. What's happening in the NBA and is there anything the league can do (0:06)? Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George opened up about his mental health. He was honest about the anxiety and depression that he's been suffering from (16:57). The Detroit Lions cancelled practice yesterday and the players met with the media. Let's talk about this (23:08). Review - Sinatra: All or Nothing At All (31:00). This is the biggest sports story of the day. Messi wants out of Barcelona. His eyes are set on Manchester City. The one problem? An $825M clause in his contract that he will now dispute with the club (34:20). Uh oh. Breaking news alert! Indiana Pacers have fired head coach Nate McMillan just a few weeks after signing him to an extension. What a disaster that release was (40:30). Quick follow up on the Cleveland Indians... would you look at that... Mike Clevinger is back tonight for the team. Plesac was told there's 'no opportunity at the big league level' at the moment. Yea, right... NBA bubble has been punctured (8/25)

Today's word of the day is 'statement' as in Milwaukee Bucks and Brewers released statements following the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Let's discuss the statements each team released and the difficult position sports team are now in.... (0:06) The Process is over. The Philadelphia 76ers were swept by the Boston Celtics in the First Round of the playoffs. The team announced the following day that head coach Brett Brown has been fired. All that trust in the process for nothing. An epic failure (15:22). What about what's going on in South Beach? Well, the Sixers shipped Jimmy Butler out of town and now the he's with the Miami Heat. And the Heat are moving on in the playoffs. Pat Riley deserves more credit than he gets for how the Heat survived the fallout of the Big 3 era (26:20). Review - The Highway men (35:00). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me what is going on with Plesac and Clevinger with the Cleveland Indians. Are they going to come back anytime soon now that the club needs a starter (38:30)? So what's going on with college football? Well, the AP ranked teams and for whatever reasons teams who won't even being playing are in it! Why (42:10)!? #waittosee Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Just another manic Monday in the NFL (8/24)

Today's word of the day is 'altercation' as in Earl Thomas gets into a fight in practice and the Baltimore Ravens choose to release him. Now a legal battle will take place over the money the team could owe Thomas. So how are these altercations handled inside the front office? Let's talk more about releasing players (0:06). This time it comes in MLB when the San Francisco Giants decided to DFA Hunter Pence. What does this mean? Why did Gabe Kapler say what he said after this happened (10:10)? MLB is seven days away from the MLB Trade Deadline. Who are buyers? Who are sellers? Who is here to just BS their fans (18:47)? Review - Yellowstone Season 3 (31:30). Anything else happening in the NFL? Nightmares. It came out that 77 players tested positive for coronavirus across 11 different teams! That's bad. Oh it came from a testing lab in New Jersey and it got all the results wrong? Oh all those players who tested positive had their retest come back negative? Perfect (34:08). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me for my thoughts on the recent interview Roger Goodell did speaking about Colin Kaepernick. He even released a statement about it on Monday morning (41:00). #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Your favorite MLB team STINKS (8/21)

Today's word of the day is 'jackson' as in Janet Jackson as in what have you done for me lately. What's going on with your favorite MLB team? How mad are you at the offseason signings or the lack of signings or guys you hate who are doing great? Well, let's run through some teams and talk about why your team stinks. The Marlins were the team of the century and now... they stink (0:06)! And the New York Mets had someone test positive so their series with the Marlins is now over and their series against the Yankees is postponed. Perfect (2:03). How about those Yankees? It looks like everyday someone new is on the IL for them. Judge, Stanton, Paxton, Torres... who else (8:00)!? Update on Thom Brennaman. His career is toast... or it should be (13:04). Our old friend Joe Maddon is back in the show today.. why? Because the Angels STINK! Absolutely stink. $245M to Rendon, $426M for Mike Trout. What a mess (15:22). How about the Phillies? STINK! All that spending and no results to show for it (22:54). Review - We Are Freestyle Love Supreme (28:15). NBA free agency could be delayed. This is going to be a nightmare for teams (31:30). Raptors president Masai Ujiri released a statement after the video was made public. This is powerful and presidential (35:35). We'll end the show today with Derrius Guice. Released by the Washington Football Team for an arrest, charged with assault, battery, and felony strangulation. Could he be any worse? Yes, yes he can. Now two former LSU women allege he raped them when he was there. This is disturbing. This is awful. This should never happen (40:02). #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. The easiest way to get fired (8/20)

Today's word of the day is 'Castellanos' as in Nick Castellanos as in the worst home run call of all time as in what was Thom Brennaman thinking! Last night he was broadcasting for the Cincinnati Reds against the Kansas City Royals and he got caught on a hot mic using a homophobic slur. Panic spread. Things happened. He was caught. So what did he do? He tried giving an apology on air and in the middle of that apology, Nick Castellanos hit a home run, and Thom STOPPED HIS APOLOGY to call the home run! What happens now (0:06))? Business. The Big Ten is a straight 'clusterduck' (darn autocorrect) - what's been happening lately with that conference? Mayhem. Let's get you up to speed (28:25). Review - The Lost Husband (38:35). Pirates president Travis Williams has tested positive for coronavirus. The team released a statement. Today has been the show of statements so let's end with one (42:35). #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. My plan for an MLB postseason bubble (8/19)

Today's word of the day is 'bubblicious' as in immediate burst of flavor as in bubble gum as in how would an MLB bubble work. Well, I'm glad you asked. This is how a postseason bubble could work. And if you see that an MLB bubble is actually happening, just remember you heard all the details here first (0:06). So let's now talk about the NBA bubble. It has worked... no positive tests, no fans, tons of games... it works... BUT what's happening with the best teams in the bubble. It hasn't been good. Raptors president Masai Ujiri is filing a countersuit against an Alameda County sheriff for what transpired after the Toronto won the championship in Golden State. Video was released yesterday that was shocking and scary. Urjiri was sued by an Alameda County sheriff back in 2019 and now that we see the footage... it's a joke. But not a funny one at all (16:45). What's happening with the Charlotte Hornets? Well, one of the team's broadcasters is now suspended for tweeting a racial slur. He said it was by accident, but that's not how this works (29:38). Review - Running Down a Dream (36:30). An update on the Rangers-Padres drama. We need to stop with all the headhunting. It's bad for the sport (41:00). #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. MLB has to get rid of that unwritten rulebook (8/18)

Today's word of the day is 'unwritten' as in baseball's unwritten rules. It's time to burn that book. Kill it with fire. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a grandslam up 10-3 in the 8th inning against the Texas Rangers and all hell broke loose. What a sham (0:06). Speaking about coaches and managers.... Joe Judge is making his training camp debut as the New York Giants head coach and he wants NO names on practice jersey. Why? Because coaches love these ridiculous things (15:01). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me if all these reports about All Star weekend in 2021 for the NBA was to be postponed because of hotel reservations being canceled (21:15). Review - Project Power (32:20). Now let's talk about some fans. NFL is ready to come back and the Chiefs say 22 percent capacity, Cowboys want the boxes full, MLB still says no fans, SEC set up rules and regulations for fans... fans, fans, fans! How will any of this work (36:10)? #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. College football has lost its collective mind! (8/17)

Today's word of the day is 'petition' as in Ohio State QB Justin Fields started a petition asking the Big Ten to un-cancel the 2020 season. Parents of players from Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State, and Iowa all sent letters to Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren asking, sorry, demanding answers about the canceled season. This is ridiculous. What is going on (0:06)? So... how are the Red Sox doing this year? WOOF! But hey, they had the infamous team meeting outside their hotel. Chaim Bloom spoke to the media about how bad things have gone (12:30). Good thing for the Red Sox is that the Cleveland Indians are an even bigger disaster story. Mike Clevinger and Zach Plesac were optioned down because the team needed to do something. Why would the Indians do this? Well, because their own teammates were willing to opt-out from the season if it didn't happen. What (19:05)? Review - Detroit (26:00). The Washington Football Team has hired the first black president in NFL history. Why do you think Dan Snyder did this? Let's talk about the hiring of Jason Wright (30:10). MLB's season is already 1/3 finished. If you blinked you missed it. Yet, here we are still getting new coronavirus rules. Perfect. I would like to take this time to talk about two of my favorite people in the world of Major League Baseball... Scott Boras and Trevor Bauer (36:10). #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. From the NFL to MLB: you can't stop players from being players (8/14)

Today's word of the day is 'nailed' as in he got nailed as in Kemah Siverand, rookie for the Seattle Seahawks, was just cut on Thursday for breaking team rules. What were those rules? Well, he got caught sneaking a woman into the team's hotel. NOT JUST THAT! It was reported that she was dressed in disguise in Seahawks clothing! WHAT (0:06)!? So Cleveland Indians pitcher Zach Plesac released a video on social media and he did EVERYTHING wrong. He blamed everyone, but himself for his own actions. This is a terrible look (7:04). Mark Emmert has finally spoken! The NCAA has woken him up from his slumber and he speaks (18:57)! So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me how I felt about the booing that went on during the FC Dallas v. Nashville game in Dallas whilst both teams kneeled during the National Anthem (24:43). Review - Summerland (35:30). St. Louis Cardinals are back to playing baseball. The NFL goes where Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys take it (8/13)

Today's word of the day is 'grace' as in Jerry Jones is back as in the NFL is back. So what did he have to say? Well, he talked about showing 'grace' when talking about kneeling for the anthem, he talked about not giving Dak Prescott a new deal, and he talked about getting fans in the stands. So now what happens? Whatever Jerry wants (0:06). Then you look at what's going on in the NBA bubble and you realize how wrong Jerry Jones is. Patrick Beverly was very vocal because of the grief he's been dealing with with things going on in Chicago. His quote was very direct and very deep. We need to all look at ourselves and our fandom. I made mistakes in my career when dealing with players and their personal problems. I realize now how wrong I was (10:45). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Joe Kelly recently went on Ross Stripling's podcast and had some choice words about the Houston Astros. So someone asked me if the Astros now have a bigger beef with the Los Angeles Dodgers than the Dodgers had with the Astros. This is a good one (28:41). Review - What We Do In The Shadows (32:25). Let's end the show with more bubble talk because the NBA is doing something that's SO insane it just makes you laugh (38:10). #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. College football is making MLB look like a perfect league (8/12)

Today's word of the day is 'cornhuskers' as in Nebraska as in what in the world is that school doing. The Big Ten decided to cancel the fall season and now Nebraska wants to go rogue. Do they not care about the wellbeing of their athletes? The Big Ten as a conference took a stand and Nebraska has been shameful in this decision. I need to explain to everybody what is going on with college football, why unions will NOT work, and why nobody is listening (0:06). And now back to some bubble talk. Reports are out that MLB might want a bubble for the 2020 postseason. I wonder where you've heard that before... Well, will a bubble work if players can't follow rules right now? The Cleveland Indians are dealing with this issue now. Now that Mike Clevinger and Zach Plesac have been put on the restricted list by the team Francisco Lindor has spoken up about how ashamed he is (17:27). Review - Grey's Anatomy (30:05). NHL talk! NHL talk! Come and get your NHL talk! I find it completely unacceptable that two teams had to play a 5OT playoff game. There's a better way than that (33:40). Let's end today talking about the Boston Red Sox. We've talked a lot about Mookie Betts, but how are things going for the Red Sox with the players they traded for (41:55)? #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Big Ten cancels fall football season... now what? (8/11)

Today's word of the day is 'now what' as in now what's going to happen in the Big Ten? The conference Presidents have voted and football will not be played this fall. It hopes to play in the Spring, but who knows. Scott Frost talked on Monday and said we will play. Jim Harbaugh released a statement on Monday that Michigan wants to play football and they're prepared to do so. None of that will be happening so... now what (0:06)? Let's give an update on the Cleveland Indians. Mike Clevenger was caught out with Zach Plesac, and he was sent home too. What an absolute mess this has become (18:09)! And now MLB hands down suspensions for Astros hitting coach Alex Cintron and Athletics player Ramon Laureano. 20 games for Cintron and 6 games for Laureano. Was that deserved (22:06)? How about MLB players deciding to opt-out now? Well it's happened to the New York Mets. Pitcher Marcus Stroman who was coming back from a calf injury decided to opt-out of the season once he was able to accrue enough service time to become a free agent after this season (29:17). Review - The Secret: Dare to Dream (38:40). Let's end the show talking about injuries in MLB again. This has become a serious, serious problem (41:15). #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Big Ten leading charge to cancel college football season (8/10)

Today's word of the day is 'power' as in the Power Five or as in who has all the power. Right now in college football things are happening. A report came out that the Big Ten Presidents got together and have voted 12-2 to cancel the fall season. So what will the other conferences in the Power Five do? Is the Big 12 waiting for the Pac-12? Is the SEC going to go on without everyone else? Did anyone wake up someone from the NCAA and let them know what's going (0:06)? Now let's move onto MLB. History was made. The Cleveland Indians sent pitcher Zach Plesac home! Not because he wasn't pitching great, not because he said something controversial, not because he missed a meeting... he was sent home for breaking protocol and leaving the hotel in Chicago to go out with friends. UNBELIEVABLE (16:45)! So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me how I would have dealt with the Tyler Skaggs situation if I was president of the team. Word came out that an employee of the Angels was charged for providing drugs to Tyler Skaggs that ultimately led to his death (21:50). Review - Point of No Return (36:50). I'm so sick of the Houston Astros. But if you're Athletics Ramon Lauerano... what are you doing charging their dugout! Jim Harbaugh can't beat Ohio State so he's resorted to using the Snitch Line (8/7)

Today's word of the day is 'rivalry' as in what Jim Harbaugh and Michigan mean to Ryan Day and Ohio State. The two coaches had a conference call and Harbaugh actually used his time to snitch on Ohio State! I could not believe what I heard from Harbaugh. Let's talk about rivalries in sports and where one rival will go to get at the other (0:06). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? The SEC is doing everything they can to play football this fall. Today the conference released health protocols. Well, on Thursday the Big Sky cancelled the fall season. So someone asked me what the heck is going on in college football (11:20). Review - What Happened, Nina Simone (20:30)? On Thursday I said Texas Tech had no choice but to fire women's basketball coach Marlene Stollings. Late Thursday they did...good (26:20). Let's talk a little about the Miami Marlins. The biggest story in MLB. Can they be the great underdog story and make a run to the postseason (27:30)? LeBron James has some interesting quotes about the Lakers struggles inside the bubble. They have not been a great team so far. Let's talk about that quote and how strange it was to hear this (30:00). I need to make a correction from a past show. I said Shohei Ohtani was the highest paid Japanese player of all time... that wasn't even close to being true (37:30). Oakland Athletics bench coach Ryan Christenson and the team had to issue an apology after Thursday's game because he celebrated by doing a Nazi salute. Is this what he meant to do? Probably not. Was he wrong for this? Definitely. We all need to be better (42:00). #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. MLB doing what it can to save 2020 season (8/6)

Today's word of the day is 'Orwellian' as in George Orwell as in MLB is now acting as Big Brother and watching over the players now like hawks. New protocols have been issued by MLB. Players are now enforcing rules. Changes are happening. MLB is trying to save baseball (0:06). I had said before the MLB season started that players were NOT ready for the season. What have we seen now? Injuries. So many injuries. This is a major problem. Where do I even start? Scherzer, Strasburg, Osuna, Verlander, Ohtani, Soroka... and on and on it goes (13:55). Now let's talk about what's happening at Texas Tech. It has to do with the women's basketball team and the complete and udder negligence shown by the coaching staff (22:15). Review - Woodstock Documentary (32:30). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me what I would do if my players wore shirts in support of a candidate that was running against one of the owners of the team. This is the case in the WNBA with players wearing "Vote Warnock" shirts before games to oppose Sen. Kelly Loeffler (37:00). #waittosee --------------------------- 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Is the NCAA ready for a college football season? (8/5)

Today's word of the day is 'NCAA' as in college athletics as in college football as in what is this mess we're dealing with? UCONN announced today that it would be cancelling its football season (0:06). The Big Ten released its schedule for the fall season. How did this happen? I have some questions. And as we were talking Big Ten the athletes released a statement on The Players' Tribune. They listed some items that they want taken care of before they agree to play this season. We need to talk about what I agree with in this release (12:00). The Pac-12 is taking out loans for their schools in case they lose revenue this year. This is fascinating and I need to explain this to you all (18:45). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me if I believed it was possible that Colorado State football coaches told players not to report coronavirus symptoms (23:42). Now let's talk about false positives. Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford was put on the covid-IR after a positive test that came back as a false-positive (33:45). MLB just going to keep on keeping on (8/4)

Today's word of the day is 'salacious' as in the word Derek Jeter used to describe the Marlins behavior, or rather, the behavior the team did not engage in. So what exactly happened with the Marlins? How did this outbreak happen? Let's discuss what the team found out (0:06). We always talk about landing the plane and today I went so far off course my story ended up on a different continent. So back to baseball... Andrew McCutchen is NOT happy with the Miami Marlins. He had some choice words about how their actions have negatively impacted the rest of the league (14:50). We got an update from the St. Louis Cardinals on which players have test positive for covid-19. The biggest name was Yadier Molina who released a statement (20:00). Review - No Direction Home, Bob Dylan (25:25). Let's update everyone on the situation going on at Washington State with head coach Nick Rolovich (28:45). Let's talk about The Rock. Yoenis Cespedes & the New York Mets: A Brodie Van Wagenen Special

Today's word of the day is 'BVW' as in Brodie Van Wagenen as in what a mess the New York Mets are. Yoenis Cespedes goes AWOL before a game in Atlanta vs the Braves. The Mets released a statement saying that they couldn't find Cespedes then word came out that he was opting out. How did this happen (0:06)? There is an uprising happening in the Pac-12. A large group of players from various schools have released a list of demands that they want before they play college football this season (15:07). Washington State head coach Nick Rolovich is in deep water after a recorded phone conversation he had with a player was leaked. This is bad. Changes will happen (24:00). Review - That Thing You Do (30:50). MLB struggle bus continues to travel across the country. Let's update you on more nightmares and some positives (no not covid-19 test positives.) MLB has become a circus... whose fault is this? (7/31)

Today's word of the day is 'circus' as in what MLB has become. Coronavirus outbreak has now spread to the St. Louis Cardinals, who now have to quarantine and postpone games. What about the Marlins? Is everything good with them? Nope! Any player or coach who has tested positive is hopping on a BUS!!! to travel from Philadelphia to Miami. A CIRCUS (0:06)! Now we have double-headers that will be just 7 innings long! Where did this come from? MLB is making it up on the fly (7:55). Anthony Rizzo was not happy with MLB during the Cubs rain delay on Thursday. He tweeted out that he wanted to know where in MLB's player safety protocols sitting around the stadium for hours and hours waiting to get word on a postponement. CIRCUS (11:51)! MLB needs some rule changes and they need them now. Here are some rules I would propose and enforce (15:59). Review - Birds of Prey (32:30). The NBA is back! The NBA is back! Bubbles are working! What's Rob Manfred's plan for MLB?

Today's word of the day is 'vitriol' as in the public's emotion after the 8 game suspension was handed down to Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly for throwing at Alex Bregman of the Houston Astros. Let's break down all sides of this issue (0:06). MLB has come out with new covid-19 protocols after the outbreak with the Miami Marlins. Why didn't they have these in place before the season started (13:37)? This has been the year of tweaks. Another tweak in MLB is the extra-inning rule. I love it (23:41)! Review - The Rhythm Section (31:45). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about the ongoing situation at Rutgers. MLB puts the Miami Marlins season on pause

Today's word of the day is 'pause' as in what MLB did to the Miami Marlins. After the coronavirus outbreak with the Marlins, MLB had to do something. The team is stuck in Philadelphia. The Yankees-Phillies series was postponed. Phillies players and staff have tested negative for the 2nd day. Why is MLB allowing the Marlins to all the heat from fans and media (0:06)? I had said that teams weren't throwing at the Houston Astros on purpose... welp, I was wrong. Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly made that clear last night by throwing a fastball right by Alex Bregman's head. Benches cleared. Words were exchanged. This needs to stop (21:32). Review - Pistorius (27:35). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me how likely an NBA bubble would be for next season given Michelle Robert's most recent comments (30:45). LeBron James says he will not initiate Zero Dark 30-23 this season. He would turn off social media and his cell phone in the past, but now because of the bubble things have changed significantly. Miami Marlins outbreak keeps getting worse for MLB

Today's word of the day is 'anarchy' as in what's happening in MLB right now. After more positive tests came back for the Miami Marlins, a report came out that Washington Nationals players are refusing to travel to Miami this weekend for a three-game series (0:06). The Phillies-Yankees game for Tuesday has been postponed again. Yankees are heading back to New York. This is a MAJOR problem for MLB, but don't worry... Rob Manfred has it under control (4:27). The NFL set the opt-out deadline as August 3rd... well today a bunch of players decided to exercise that clause. Six Patriots alone have opted out on Tuesday. Let's discuss (11:35). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me if I expect managers to watch pitch counts during a shortened season like they would in a 162 game season (18:30). Review - A Kid from Coney Island (24:31). I've given Kyrie Irving a lot of flack in the past, but now it's time to give him some praise. What he's doing for the WNBA is amazing (29:00). Patrick Mahomes is now an MLB owner. It's happened. He has joined the Kansas City Royals ownership group. What does this mean (32:55)? More on Jamal Adams and the mess with the New York Jets (34:55). The extra-inning rule is already becoming controversial in MLB. Cleveland Indians pitcher Mike Clevinger was very critical of this rule (38:00). #waittosee --------------------------- Nominate Nothing Personal with David Samson for the People's Choice Podcast Awards: http://podcastawards.com/app/signup/ 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Marlins coronavirus outbreak could derail MLB season (7/27)

Today's word of the day is 'outbreak' as in what has happened with the Miami Marlins. After 11 players have now tested positive for covid-19 MLB is scrambling to figure things out. Tonight's Yankees-Phillies game has been postponed because the Marlins just wrapped up a series on Sunday in Philadelphia. What would I do if I was involved with MLB? This is a long discussion (0:06). Now let's take a look at the NBA. What's going on with the bubble? Is it working? Well, Lou Williams tested the bubble investigation team. He went to Georgia for personal reasons, but was then caught at Magic City in Atlanta, breaking all the NBA bubble rules. This cannot happen (27:55). More bad MLB news: Justin Verlander could be out the rest of the season with a forearm injury. He says he will be reevaluated in a few weeks. Injuries were always going to happen. There was not enough time to get ready for the season (38:05). MLB announces expanded playoffs on Opening Day... what?

Today's word of the day 'sixteen' as in MLB is expanding the postseason to 16 teams instead of 10 teams. Why is this happening? Why did they impose this on Opening Day? Who benefits and who doesn't (0:06)? Like I had told you all on Monday - the Toronto Blue Jays will play its season in Buffalo. Not in Pittsburgh. Not in Baltimore (12:04). Juan Soto was pulled from the Nationals lineup after testing positive for covid-19 before the opener against the Yankees, but it may have been a false positive. Let's have a conversation about these tests (15:23). Review - Only You (22:48). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me if Bryce Harper's comments on J.T. Realmuto impact the Phillies and make them sign him long term (25:10). We've covered the New York Jets so much on this show. They are the most drama filled team in the NFL. Adam Gase and Jamal Adams are the topic of conversation for MONTHS now. Enough...(35:55) #waittosee ------------------------------------------------- Nominate Nothing Personal with David Samson for the People's Choice Podcast Awards: http://podcastawards.com/app/signup/ 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. MLB Opening Day is FINALLY HERE!

Today's word of the day is 'over' as in the wait is over as in baseball is back! It's been months since MLB shutdown, but we're finally here. Opening Day. In July (0:06). Let's talk about pressure. Gerrit Cole is now a Yankee and the team is paying him major money to be the best. Will he be? Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Gleyber Torres, Gary Sanchez... that's a dangerous lineup. Can they carry the Yankees to their first World Series title since 2009 (3:50). What about the Los Angeles Dodgers? Is it their time? They just signed Mookie Betts to a long-term deal that would keep him in LA until he's 40. The team is loaded with talent, like always. Will they be able to finally get that ring (14:32)? BREAKING - Washington will call itself the "Washington Football Team" until it adopts its new team name... what? This is ridiculous (18:57). The Cleveland Indians also released a statement on the possibility of changing the team name. Let's discuss this (20:38). Where will Toronto Blue Jays play their home games during the 2020 season? Not in Toronto. Not in Pittsburgh. Maybe Baltimore? Maybe Buffalo (23:12)? Review - Da 5 Bloods (28:58). Jets owner Woody Johnson is under investigation for racist and sexist comments made as Ambassador to the United Kingdom (30:50). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me what my predictions are for the 2020 MLB season. Well... here they are (41:45). Why are the Dodgers paying Mookie Betts right now!? (7/22)

Today's word of the day is 'unbettlievable' as in Mookie Betts is close to a mega long-term deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. This was always going to happen, but why now!? What are the Dodgers doing? There is too much uncertainty with the financials. How do you think Gavin Lux feels about the deal. Lux is the Dodgers top prospect and he didn't make the Opening Day roster... we now know why (0:06). Chiefs defensive star Chris Jones just signed a long-term deal with the team. That wasn't the big news. He also said Patrick Mahomes texted him that he left money on the table so Jones could get paid...really (13:45)? The Washington (former Redskins) TBD made a hire yesterday. Julie Donaldson was named Senior VP of Media. Why did Daniel Snyder make this hire (18:23)? So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about Glen Taylor wanting to sell the Minnesota Timberwolves for $1.2B. They wanted to know my thoughts on Taylor saying that he won't sell to someone who wants to move the team (22:30). The Islanders are about to sign a huge naming rights deal. Let me explain what this means and what the money will be used for (31:12). Review - 7500 (35:25). Can we stop with everyone saying that the Houston Astros are being thrown at purposefully? I've had enough of it. Opening Day is tomorrow so let's stop it now (40:25). The NBA Bubble is working... for now! (7/21)

Today's word of the day is 'nada' or nil or zero as in the amount of positive tests within the NBA bubble. This is a great sign. It means the bubble will work if the players buy into it. Is the bubble working (0:06)? The NFL got to see how bad negotiations went between MLB and MLBPA which helped them out immensely. On Monday the NFL 'gave in' and offered the players zero preseason games. There could be ramped up testing of up to once a day for two weeks straight. Is everything perfect in the NFL (8:24)? So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me for my thoughts on Dr. Fauci throwing out the first pitch for Opening Day in Washington DC. Not only are the Nationals the defending World Series champions, they're also playing the New York Yankees (16:47). San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler became the first MLB manager kneel during the National Anthem. More history was made in that game as Alyssa Nakken became the first woman to coach on the field during the game. Something else also happened - Kapler said he may not tell his starting pitcher they're starting until gameday... what (27:53)? Review - Married (39:07). It looks like the Toronto Blue Jays will be playing home games in Pittsburgh. I was very wrong about this (42:30). NFL superstars launch social media campaign to get answers (7/20)

Today's word of the day is 'synchronized' as in NFL stars take to Twitter to call out the NFL on health protocols. Myles Garrett, JJ Watt, Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Donald, Todd Gurley, Drews Brees, Richard Sherman, and numerous other NFL players all tweeted out statements at the same time. Different statements, but the same goal. Will this strategy work (0:06)? So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me what Toronto Blue Jays staffers need to do now that Canada will not allow MLB to take place this season. They want me to explain the details of the team looking for a new ballpark a week before the season starts (11:48). Review - Emma (30:55). One of the biggest stories in MLB this weekend concerned Yankees suspended pitcher Domingo German. He sent out a release saying he was done with baseball and leaving the game. The very next day he released another statement saying he was sorry for the confusion, but he still wants to continue playing. He was suspended for 81 games for violating MLB's domestic violence rules. What is going on here (39:05)? #waittosee --------------------------- Nominate Nothing Personal with David Samson for the People's Choice Podcast Awards: http://podcastawards.com/app/signup/ 'Nothing Personal with David Samson' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Bullhorn and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Washington owner Daniel Snyder thinks we're all fools (7/17)

Today's word of the day is 'rope-a-dope' as in what Daniel Snyder is trying to do right now. The Washington Post released a major story that described a horrific workplace under Snyder with the Washington pro football team. 15 women stepped forward with their stories involving either sexual harassment and verbal abuse. The article outlines how some key employees in Daniel Snyder's inner circle tormented these women for years (0:06). The NFL has a lot on its mind right now. The battle between the NFL and the NFLPA is heating up. Yesterday some economic issues were made public and today the issues of health are public (29:02). Review - The Assistant (37:50). The Alex Rodriguez Saga continues. He is doing everything wrong to try and buy the New York Mets. Let me explain why (41:10). Hey Twitter people, think before you tweet (7/16)

Today's word of the day is 'felony' as in what NFL WR Kenny Stills was charged with protesting on the lawn of the Kentucky Attorney General's house. Let's have an honest discussion about the law and why these charges won't stick (0:06). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about Dwyane Wade's tweets from yesterday. They wanted to know if Wade had enough goodwill to overcome his deleted tweets (9:50). Dak Prescott did not get his long-term deal from the Dallas Cowboys. This is significant news. What happened between Dak Prescott and Jerry Jones (21:55)? Review - The Old Guard (29:52). NASCAR held an event last night with 20K fans in the stands. Is this the beginning of the return to normalcy? What does this mean for other leagues (33:30)? A quick update on the Elena Della Donne situation. 1-800-NBA-SNITCH: Who's calling the NBA snitch-line? (7/15)

Today's word of the day is ' ' it's silence. A moment of silence. Jimmy Butler has asked the NBA if he could have his last name removed from his jersey when play resumes. NBA has opened up pandora's box with this jersey situation. LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Joel Embiid are going with their last names. Some players are going with messaging like 'freedom' or 'equality'. The NBA messed this up (0:06). CONFERENCE CALL! Let's role play what it must be like for players to call the NBA Snitch Line (6:23). With sports starting to come back there is a lot of confusion concerning players choosing to opt-out. Let's walk through everything you need to know about this situation. There are major differences between David Price, Ellena Della Donne, Carlos Vela, and Buster Posey (13:35). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about Friday's podcast when I talked about the idea of mob mentality when talking about Desean Jackson. They asked why do I feel there was a much bigger reaction over Drew Brees’s comments on the flag than Desean Jackson’s comment (26:03). Review - Irresistible (32:50). MLB players have a problem. A very big problem this season. It comes in the form of vesting options. JA Happ has to hit a specific number of incentives in order to have his contract next season guaranteed. This is not good for the shortened season (37:15).
