Secondo il rapporto Censis-Ital Communications, il 93,3% degli italiani (circa 47 milioni di persone) si informa abitualmente, principalmente attraverso il web. Tuttavia, l'aumento delle fake news è un problema crescente, tanto che a giugno 2020 le false notizie presenti online hanno superato quelle vere.
