Highs stay in the single digits and teens for a chilly first weekend of the new year, with lows dropping well below zero with a chance for snow sliding through the Northland.

Rain looks likely for a good portion of the region for Friday and Saturday before temperatures start to cool down.

A few brief rounds of snow look possible, but overall it looks to be a mostly quiet weekend across the Northland.

For Friday night, the best chance for rain will be across northern Minnesota into the Red River Valley as a cold front moves on through. By Saturday, the chances for rain across northern Minnesota dwindle down, however we could still see more showers popping up across central and southern Minnesota by Saturday afternoon.

Another warm front will lift through the region on Friday, raising the dial for temperatures and humidity as we head into the weekend. Highs on Saturday will largely be in the 80s, with some 90s in southwestern locations, as skies look partly to mostly sunny. Sunday is warm but with a change late in the day as precipitation chances increase in the west.

A break from the heat is on the horizon, but we have to get through the weekend first. Saturday brings one more really hot day for most of the region, especially out west. Saturday afternoon brings some thunder shower chances for eastern North and South Dakota, as well as west central Minnesota. Sunday starts our cool down trend.

The first half of the weekend looks to continue the unsettled pattern of rain showers in our region. As the holiday weekend begins, there's a chance of scattered rain throughout the region. Winds will diminish after Friday with temperatures in the 60s and 70s while slightly cooler temps can be expected on Memorial Day.

We are looking at the wind making a return after what was a fairly wet week for our region. Storms from Friday night will move out of the Red River Valley area as we head into Saturday morning. These storms move with a cold front that brings strong west winds behind it for Saturday afternoon.

As we go into the first weekend of May, we see a return fo the warm spring temperatures by Sunday. The last of the late week rain showers move out Friday night and early Saturday morning. Any remianing showers in eastern Minnesota and sprinkles in the Red River Valley will clear out by the afternoon.

This weekend will bring a nice rain for the entire region. The rain starts off Friday and continues into the weekend. Saturday will have rain showers and even a rumble of thunder possible throughout the day. Winds will also get breezy at times thanks to the low pressure system moving through the region.

This weekend brings back the sunshine for a majority of the region, and temperatures will warm up in response. Friday evening will still be cloudy with areas in northern Minnesota and the Red River Valley seeing occasional snow flurries. These clear on out as we head into a sunny Saturday afternoon. Sunday will also see a big jump in temperatures with 50s and 60s making a return.
