The Payment of Wages (Amendment) (Tips and Gratuities) Act came into effect this week, meaning all tips including service charges will go to staff and can’t be used towards making up basic wages. So how has the system fared in its first weekend? Is tipping a measure of inequality? Or is it a system based on reward and punishment - or simply on merit?
