The labor strike at Samsung's Sriperumbudur plant escalated after workers, backed by the CITU, demanded union recognition and better wages. Efforts to register their union were delayed by trademark objections from Samsung. Following a protest that led to over 900 arrests, the Madras High Court ordered the state to decide on the union’s registration, amid concerns that Samsung’s resistance to unionization is politically motivated.
