Annabelle Hickson is the founder and editor of Galah Magazine, an independent print magazine that captures regional Australia and the people who live there. With the return of several big magazine titles this year, we ask her if there is a growing desire for non-digital experiences. We also talk about the lack of local newspapers and how that might be feeding perceptions of rural and regional Australia that aren’t quite accurate. Over 60 million people have watched the massive Netflix hit, Baby Reindeer. Made in the UK, it’s described as a dark comedy drama-thriller miniseries, but it’s the label it gave itself that has thrust the show into the news - ‘this is a true story’. Cue a debate about entertainment and the truth in the era of streaming platforms that aren’t necessarily putting much stock in compliance with broadcasting codes of conduct. Throw in six enquiries, headlines on competition, the cost of living, and a CEO's interview walkout, and it's a prime topic for this week's News Club Club picks: This graph on the market share of different supermarkets in Australia. The Four Corners episode on the tactics supermarkets are using to keep prices high and competition out. This editorial in the Financial Review says the price gouging claims levelled against the Coles and Woolworths are a bit of a beat-up.
