Randy Hayman, Executive Director of the S&WB of New Orleans, joins Newell to review S&WB's 6-step action plan to repair New Orleans' aging water system. The strategy involves urgent attention to at-risk pipes, a pilot testing assessment of old water mains, and an ongoing water main replacement program. The 6-step plan includes:
1. Immediately address urgent risk transmission mains.
2. Conduct a pilot test on a subsection of the oldest water mains.
3. Issue an RFI for information on emerging technologies.
4. Develop the next set of priority projects based on information gathered in steps 1-3.
5. Evaluate hydraulic conditions in targeted areas.
6. Conduct a citywide conditions assessment.
