The New York Mets started the season strong with a home opener win against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Rookie outfielder Carson Benge shone in his debut, hitting a solo home run and earning the start in right field. Shortstop Francisco Lindor, returning from injury, drew three walks and scored each time he reached base. Reliever Tobias Myers impressed in his Mets debut, allowing just one solo homer.
