Show Notes
In Bowling Green Park, Lower Manhattan, an ancient iron fence stands, the citys oldest, once guarding a statue of King George III. On July 9, 1776, patriots toppled and dismantled the statue, melting its lead into musket balls. The kings head was paraded through the streets, and fragments have resurfaced over the years. The fence, damaged in the chaos, was moved but returned in 1938. An exhibit on the citys role in the revolution opens in May 2026, preserving the revolutionary spirit.
