Sergeant Moshe Yitzchak Hacohen Katz, a 22-year-old American-born Israeli soldier from New Haven, Connecticut, tragically lost his life in combat in southern Lebanon. Katz, who served in the IDFs Paratroopers Brigade, was posthumously promoted to sergeant. His death comes amidst Israels operations against Hezbollah, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressing deep condolences to his family. Katzs great-uncle remembered him as a special, religious young man who loved life and excelled as a student. Since early March, five Israeli soldiers have been killed in Lebanon, displacing one million Lebanese residents and resulting in at least one thousand one hundred sixteen deaths in Lebanon, according to security analysts.
