Louisianas Wildlife Management Areas Expand: New Land Added to John Franks, Sandy Hollow, and Salvador for Enhanced Hunting and Conservation

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission has approved significant expansions to three key wildlife management areas: John Franks in Caddo Parish, Sandy Hollow in Tangipahoa Parish, and Salvador in St. Charles Parish. These additions range from 52 acres to over 600 acres, bringing the total size of John Franks to nearly 4,000 acres.

The new land was acquired through various means, including leasing from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, donations from nonprofits, and purchases using wildlife heritage funds. The expansions will provide better hunting opportunities for deer, squirrels, and doves, as well as improved habitats for wildlife and increased recreational space.

John Franks new land includes hardwood forests, farm fields, and a mile along the Red River for boaters. Salvador gained wetlands and four miles of lakefront, while Sandy Hollow plans restorations for longleaf pine trees, growing it to over 4,700 acres.

Two more land grabs for wildlife areas are expected soon, further expanding Louisianas public hunting and conservation network.
