Norman C. Francis, a civil rights pioneer and longtime Xavier University of Louisiana president, was honored at a memorial service following his passing at 94. Known for breaking barriers and transforming Xavier into a top HBCU, Francis was remembered as a mentor and champion who empowered Black scholars. His impact extended beyond education, as he co-founded Liberty Bank and Trust. The funeral will take place on Tuesday at St. Louis Cathedral.
