Show Notes
Journalists in Louisiana now have access to free legal assistance from the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. Virginia Hamrick, a New Orleans attorney with experience in public records and open meetings, has joined their Local Legal Initiative to provide pro-bono services to newsrooms across the state. This initiative, which started in 2020 in five states, aims to make government information more accessible and help reporters get public records, push for transparency, and get advice on stories. With strong public records laws in Louisiana but tough enforcement, this initiative could significantly impact how easily journalists access key documents.
