Dr. Norman C. Francis, a civil rights champion and advisor to eight U.S. presidents, was celebrated at his funeral mass in New Orleans. The longest-tenured university president in the country, Francis served at Xavier University for forty-seven years and co-founded Liberty Bank and Trust. He played a crucial role in post-Katrina recovery efforts and inspired countless graduates. Francis, who broke racial barriers and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, was laid to rest in St. Louis Cemetery Number three.
