Southern University to Honor Caleb Wilson with Posthumous Degree, Push for Stronger Anti-Hazing Laws
Southern University plans to award a posthumous degree to Caleb Wilson, a junior from Kenner, during this springs graduation ceremony. Wilson, who was set to graduate, lost his life in a suspected off-campus hazing incident linked to the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. Five men have been indicted in connection with his death. In response, a task force named after Wilson has been formed to push anti-hazing measures across Louisiana colleges, particularly in Greek life. The task force has introduced House Bill six thirty-six, proposing twenty-five-year suspensions or permanent bans for groups involved in hazing deaths. Representative Delisha Boyda, who led last years Caleb Wilson Act for mandatory anti-hazing courses, aims to expand the training to include a full semester for freshmen, athletes, and Greek members.
