S1 Ep 1Escape: Out of This World (Audition) 1947-02-28
Welcome to the first installment of my “Mystery x Suspense" channel... we will start with the first episode from the Escape program. Escape was an adventure and suspense series that ran for seven years; from July 1947 to September 1954 on CBS radio. The series was originally titled “Out of this World,” then later changed to Escape before launching. This initial episode is an audition recording for the actors and crew in preparation for the show’s launch several months later. Features the comic legend Art Carney who became a huge star from the series The Honeymooners with Jackie Gleason. I don’t think there is an official title for this episode, but it goes by “Out Of This World,” about a ventriloquist and his dummy, Toby. Murder ensues, but was it by the ventriloquist or Toby? This story is taken from the 1945 British anthology horror movie, ‘Dead of Night.’ I’ve never seen the movie, but after hearing this story, now I want to see the film to see how it measures up.
