When we consider the social, cultural and circumstantial environment that Jeremiah found himself in, what Jeremiah is saying here is extraordinary.
These words foreshadow a time when there will be an unprecedented immediacy in the relationship between God and people. There will not be any need for teachers to instruct the people because the instruction will be given by the Spirit to the hearts of the people.
How does the Spirit access the heart?
Is it by sheer force or power?
What does it mean to have God’s law written on one’s heart anyway?!
