Show Notes

Elena Skoreyko Wagner is a Canadian illustrator and paper collage artist based in York, UK.

This is such a beautiful, REAL and honest conversation. Elena shares her experience of motherhood and her work and how she came to illustrate story books with paper collage.

I first saw an example of her work with the book 'My Mom Has Feelings Too' by K.D. Stoddard.

In this episode we speak about:

  • Elena's experience of birth in 3 different countries
  • the self-judgement, self-alienation and disconnection from other mothers we can so often have
  • Elena's Dad playing his part in helping with her support network
  • how 'beautiful spaces' are not everything and letting go of commercialised ideas (I f**king LOVE this point!)
  • my experience with my emotions as a new Mama and why I was drawn to the book of K.D. Stoddard
  • the precious 'WHY' behind Elena's work and her training/background
  • my awful experience with a publishing company and the gatekeeping/censoring that can happen
  • the stories held in the paper!
  • another book Elena's worked on called 'Wild Trails To The Sea' by Penelope Jackson

Themes: Motherhood, Story Telling, Art, Mental Health
