1971年12月21日，伊拉克北方的基爾庫克醫院，接到了一名手腳麻痺、感覺失調的病患，後來的幾天，伊拉克各地的醫院又收到擁有相同病症的患者，他們運動機能與神經失調，不只有四肢，連舌頭也感到麻痹，喪失了味覺，更有些嚴重的患者失去了聽覺及視力，甚至是死亡，一股詭譎的氣氛瞬間在伊拉克蔓延開來，人們開始猜想，這是一場未知的瘟疫？又或者是什麼恐怖的事情正在發生？
