In 1963, 52-year-old Irene Wilson was violently killed inside her home in the Broomstick area of Calhoun County. Those who knew Irene described her as a devoted Christian and a respected, well-liked member of the local community. At the time of the attack, her husband was away at work, employed as a night watchman. When he attempted to call home and received no answer, he became alarmed and contacted nearby neighbors to check on her.
