ADVENTURES OF THE FEDERATED TEC #1 "ARSON PLUS"
WELCOME TO THE PILOT EPISODE OF A VERY SPECIAL SERIES... "Adventures of the Federated Tec"! A series of 8 initial episodes of 7 dramatized stories featuring Dashiell Hammett's nameless detective. We call him the Federated Tec ("Tec" being short for detective), but you probably know him as something else. We've chosen Hammett's first few stories that have moved into the public domain, and have done our best to stay true to the originals -- and why not? The originals are just fine, as far as we're concerned. We proudly present episode one, "Arson Plus", Hammett's first published story, from 1923. We hope you enjoy it and will join us for future episodes. In his first adventure, the Tec is called out to Sacramento County to help the Sheriff's Dept. with a strange arson case -- one that involves the death of a man who made a deep impression on everyone he met -- but whom nobody seemed to truly know. THE MAN WITH NO FACE
THE MAN WITH NO FACE, originally released in April 2020 on the Mutual Audio Network, is an adaptation by Pete Lutz of a short story by G. M. Benson, originally published in the 1920s. This tale of psychic phenomenon has been brought into the present day, and has suffered not a bit, we believe, by its slight modernization. NARADA RADIO COMPANY CAST IN ORDER OF APPEARANCE: THE DOCTOR: Julia Eve MRS SMITH: Angel Leigh McCoy MR SMITH: Pete Lutz MUSIC COMPOSED BY Dr. Ross Bernhardt
THE BIRD AND THE SNAKE
THE BIRD AND THE SNAKE, adapted by Pete Lutz from a story by Clem Hanlon. NARADA RADIO COMPANY RATED R. The Series Finale of Pulp-Pourri Theatre, "The Bird and the Snake" comes from a 1959 issue of Adam Magazine, a slick "girlie-mag", so not technically a pulp story, yet Clem Hanlon's tale of a Polish-American cop in Chi-town really smacks of the pulp style. I'm proud of this final series episode, and feel that with it, we sent Pulp-Pourri Theatre out with a real bang, and not a whimper. I hope you feel the same after hearing it. Our theme, and transitional music, was specially composed for this episode by Katharine Seaton. I absolutely love what she did here. PULP-POURRI THEATRE S4 E8 -- THE CASK OF AMONTILLADO (HORROR) Here is our penultimate episode of Pulp-Pourri Theatre: The Cask of Amontillado, by Edgar Allan Poe, adapted and produced by Pete Lutz; followed by the poems "Annabel Lee" and "The Raven". NARADA RADIO COMPANY CAST OF THE CASK OF AMONTILLADO: MONTRESOR: Jason D. Johnson FORTUNATO: Pete Lutz INTRODUCED BY: Ele Matelan of Wildclaw Theater, Chicago, Illinois ANNOUNCERS: Lisa Ayala, Gareth Severn Music sourced from 16th & 17th Century Italian compositions ANNABEL LEE recited by Jackie Ayers THE RAVEN recited by Pete Lutz MUSIC FOR POEMS BY: Tom Rory Parsons ---------- 2024 NOTE FOR THIS 2018 PRODUCTION: Our announcer, Lisa Ayala, states plainly in the closing announcements that the two poems included at the end of this production are presented in their entirety, with no alteration. Up till today, 5/21/24, that statement was an inadvertent lie. I discovered some time ago that I had accidentally omitted one verse from The Raven, but I didn't fix it till last year (with Tom Rory Parsons providing additional music for that missing verse) -- and then I didn't get around to adding it to this production until now. You, dear listener, probably didn't notice, and I received no angry letters from Poe fans, but it bothered me, and now Lisa's words ring true. Thank you -- Pete Lutz
