When We Wore Wigs

Wigs have been worn throughout history for various reasons such as for cultural or religious purposes, to cover hair loss, or for aesthetic reasons. In the Western world, wigs became fashionable during the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly in the courts of Europe. During this time, wigs were considered a sign of status and wealth and were worn by both men and women. They were made from human hair, animal hair, or even from straw or silk. Wigs were often styled with intricate designs and adorned with accessories such as ribbons, feathers, or jewels. However, the popularity of wigs declined during the 19th century as hairstyles became more natural and less formal. Today, wigs are still worn for various reasons but are not as commonly used as they once were.
