The Belly Button Is Just Your Old Mouth
Before birth, the fetus gets all of its oxygen and nutrients from the placenta through the umbilical cord. After birth, the baby no longer needs the umbilical cord, so it is cut and clamped. The remaining part of the umbilical cord dries up and falls off, leaving behind a scar, which is your belly button.
