Yanar Mohammed, a Toronto activist and Iraqi refugee, was shot and killed in Baghdad. Known for founding Iraqs first womens shelter, she fought for womens rights amidst war, radical Islam, and custody laws favoring fathers. Her death, just before International Womens Day, is a loss for civil society and a call to continue her fight for equality.
