Tarcia Smith, host of the "Adoption Journey" podcast which is coming up on its 100th episode, talked about the trauma of adoption and the need for a support system. Through her podcast she co-founded "Black Adoptees Meetup." It's an organization that curates conversation with black people around the world who have been adopted. They share stories and information to help each other. They know the hardship of adoption, so they partnered with Lutheran Services (which help foster children in need) to donate duffle bags stuffed with necessary items and holiday gifts. For information on how to make a duffle bag donation or even mentor a foster child visit www.blackadopteesmeetup.org BLACK EDUCATORS MENTORING FEMALE STUDENTS AT MEADOWBROOK M.S. A group of 8 female educators formed a mentoring group for the young ladies in their school. "Young Girls on the Move" is a 501c-3 organization that gives girls experiences they might not have ever had before - one on one tutoring, etiquette training, counseling, weekend retreats and more. The women saw several young girls in the school struggling with isolation, etc and they developed a safe space for them. We understood that part of the government shutdown was due to politicians not agreeing on raising the costs for everyone on Medicaid, Medicare and through the Marketplace. Dwight Dale with SOAR Health Advisors broke it down - Medicare costs will rise a bit, to stay insured through the Marketplace you have to keep up with your taxes so the government can determine your eligibility. If you're on Medicaid and have had your care suspended, call the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services 1-800-633-4227.
