Show Notes
Allen Ross was a beloved and talented Chicago filmmaker who was struggling to cope with the loss of his mother in the early 1990s. Seeking a way to heal, Allen traveled to Guthrie, Oklahoma, after hearing about a spiritual healer named Linda Greene. Linda claimed to use a practice called "dowsing" to connect with the subconscious and rid the world of evil. What started as a search for peace quickly turned into a nightmare as Allen became deeply entangled in Linda's cult, the Samaritan Foundation.
As Linda's teachings grew increasingly bizarre and paranoid, she convinced her followers to move into an abandoned jail, cut off contact with the outside world, and rely entirely on dowsing for their survival. When Allen suddenly stopped communicating with his family and friends in late 1995, they knew something was terribly wrong. It would take years of relentless searching, a highly publicized custody battle involving another cult member, and a shocking discovery in a Cheyenne, Wyoming basement to finally uncover the truth about what happened to Allen.
