Confessions of a shopaholic - move over, there’s a new kid on the block and she’s running out of steam. Mommy martyrdom is rife in today’s world, but is it really helpful? Spoiler alert -it’s not, and I am pretty vocal on the podcast as to why this practice needs to stop. Really the crux of my mission with the podcast is to create a platform where I'm able to show up for you and provide you as much support as I can, and help you feel seen and heard. One big topic is mommy martyrdom - a mindset where we are where one believes that self-sacrificing is so necessary, and it is expected. In today’s episode, I talk about why mommy martyrdom is a hoax. I share the power of showing up for yourself first in order to help others, why boundaries matter, and why your identity is more than just being a mom. In this episode, we cover:
- What is mommy martyrdom [2:35]
- Prioritize yourself first [6:41]
- You have the power to make the change [16:32]
- A loving relationship with yourself means a loving relationship with your kids [22:47]
- Motherhood is changing and gives more space for you to have an identity outside of being a mom [31:45]
- Working mom or stay at home - you all matter [37:11]
- The paradox of motherhood and how to fix it [41:36]
