Many say Warren Buffett lost his touch because Berkshire has been underperforming the S&P 500 index. The arguments are that Buffett didn't take advantage of the 2020 stock market crash, how his $137 billion are idle, that Occidental, Heinz and Airlines have been a huge mistake and how Buffett should be investing in the new stocks out there. I am arguing that there is a difference between investing that works always and speculation that works just sometimes. Investing will make you richer and richer over the long-term while speculation will make you rich until thing turn south. Berkshire outperformed the S&P 500 over the last 20 years alongside extremely low risk. I would say, over the next 20 years, the story will be similar. Many have been attracted by Airline stocks recently, but to get exposure to the travel growth mega trend, perhaps it is better to look at Airport stocks. Airport stocks are better than airline stocks because some airports offer a moat, something that no airline offers. In 2008 banks were too big to fail! In 2020, stocks might be too big too fail! We discuss the financialization of the economy,, how household wealth is impacted by financial engineering and low interest rates force people to invest. This all leads to stocks being hot and discussed by many, cheap brokers like Robinhood add to the party. Nutrien Dividend Stock Analysis - A stock to watch! THE KEYS WHEN IT COMES TO NUTRIEN: - Low cost potash producer with 6 million tonnes production ramp up option at extremely low cost and 50 years of production ahead - gives a margin of safety, also the high margins protect the dividend - Integrated with retail after the merger with Agrium contributing $650 million in synergies - the retail segment is not as volatile as the fertilizer segment which gives also more stability to the dividend - $2 billion cash flow at the bottom, or possible bottom, of the fertilizer cycle. Even if cash flows fall to just $1 billion, that is what they pay out for dividends, thus still some room left - Good distributions to shareholders and sound balance sheet - strong buybacks and dividends from free cash flows - Possible growth coming from potential higher fertilizer pricing but also from operations as the constantly invest for growth. Corning is a picks and shovels business for the 5G trend, the autonomous driving trend with more screens in the car where you don't focus on driving any more but on entertaining and also on other glass uses like vaccines. It is also a fundamentally sound business that has survived many crises. it is however a cyclical business with high capital investments needed to always stay at the forefront of technology with high initial margins that decline fast as the competition ramps up. Nevertheless a stock to watch and perhaps nail the upturn when the huge buybacks will be reinstated. The company returned $20 billion to shareholders in the past where the current market cap is $19 billion. Buffett's mistake with airlines is pushing Berkshire's stock down while other things go up. This is such a reminder of 1999 when all dot-com stocks were exploding and BRK was down because Buffett was old fashioned. What we are seeing now is a similar situation with Buffett's 'HUGE' AIRLINES MISTAKE haha. What is the best stock market investment strategy to deploy money is the ultimate question to be answered, if you have money of course. Most people think about whether to deploy it all immediately (LUMP SUM INVESTING) or to stage the purchases over a period of time (DOLLAR COST AVERAGING). Vanguard and other research shows that you'll do better with a lump-sum investment in 70% of cases and better with dollar cost averaging in 30% of cases. Disney stock analysis for 2020. Disney stock (NYSE: DIS) offers a share in a great business and the recent stock drop might make it a good buying opportunity. If is funny that Warren Buffett did buy Disney in 1966, a 5% stake for $4 million that would be worth today north of $10 billion. However, he sold in 1967 for a 50% profit in just a year. He figured he is paying just for the park while all the other things are for free; the brand, future growth etc. Today, if we analyze what Disney is, each business individually, especially if we compare to Netflix, just Disney+ could cover for the whole market capitalization. Oil stocks are a buy now because oil prices will come back to a supply and demand average balance. So, oil stocks that survive the year with huge oversupply will do good and pay good dividends in the future. Look for value and avoid risky plays with a lot of debt. At current levels 68% of US oil production is completely unfeasible and just that would remove 8 mb/d from supply and correct the price if the situation persists over a year. So, the average long-term price of oil will be higher than $30. On stocks - we have to differentiate between rebound buys and long-term investments. Exxon XOM will likely rebound as oil prices go up and the oil price war ends, but their growth strategy might not work well over the long-term as a small decline in demand might lead to long-term oversupply. This adds to the risk. Similarly, creditors have shows confidence in the sector by giving Shell (RDS) $12 billion in credit so the dividends can keep coming. But, taking on debt to pay a dividend is simply stupid in my opinion. Lundin Petroleum can break-even at $17, the Russians have similar costs when it comes to producing so there are companies that will make money no matter the environment. When will this stock market crash end is the question many have. The news continues to be bad so no end in sight, but history tells us one day it will end and the stock market bottom will probably be at the worst possible time qua news. So, I look at past stock market crashes so that history can teach us what the best stock market investing strategy is. I also share my portfolio performance - not as bad as one might think given the situation.
