Alex McFarlane, a promising pitching prospect for the Philadelphia Phillies, was optioned to Double-A Reading. Despite a strong finish to last season, McFarlane was not included in the teams initial roster cuts, along with Andrew Painter and Gabriel Rincones Junior. However, Rincones was later sent to Triple-A due to knee issues. The Phillies currently have sixty players in camp, with eleven in the World Baseball Classic. They played split-squad games against the Red Sox and Twins, building depth as they prepare for the season.
