Bill White, a 92-year-old baseball legend, has been selected as the 2026 recipient of the Buck ONeil Lifetime Achievement Award. This prestigious honor recognizes individuals who have significantly contributed to baseballs positive impact on society. White will receive the award on July 25th during Hall of Fame Weekend. The award, established in 2007, is given out no more than every three years by the Halls board. Whites career as a player, announcer, and leader in baseball is marked by eight All-Star appearances, seven Gold Gloves, and helping the Cardinals win the World Series in 1964. He later broadcast Yankees games for 18 years and served as National League president from 1989 to 1994, becoming one of the top Black executives in sports. White is considered a trailblazer who broke barriers in the minors by desegregating leagues. Nominations for the next award, due in 2029, are open to the public through mail by June 30th, 2028.
