Show Notes

We will learn:

  • The consequences of secrets and how to know when to open up.
  • The distinction between secrecy and privacy.
  • The psychology of “positive secrets” (i.e. a proposal, a surprise party, a promotion).

On average we each carry 13 secrets. 13 things that we are just unwilling to share with people.

This is so shocking to me because I know how secrets can affect a person… and I’ll give you a hint: overall it’s not great.

So what do we do about it? How do we know when a secret is harmful and how do we make it more bearable to open up?

That’s what we’re talking about today. Our guest is Michael Slepian. He is the leading expert on the psychology of secrets. Slepian has authored more than fifty articles on secrecy, truth, and deception.
