On August 1, 1966, what began as a normal summer day on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin turned into one of the most horrifying acts of violence in American history. In 96 minutes, Marine veteran Charles Whitman claimed 14 lives. Add to that count the lives he took before this massacre, and another life who died 3 decades later due to complications, the total count was 17 murder victims, plus dozens more injured. Jennifer Evans was murdered in the summer of 1995 while vacationing in Virginia. Two Navy Seal recruits were arrested and convicted of her murder. The men were Dustin Turner and Billy Brown. At the time, both men pointed the finger at each other as the man who killed Jennifer. Dustin Turner was sentenced to 82 years. Billy Brown was sentenced to 72 years. Years later, Billy admitted he was Jennifer’s killer. Since then, Turner has left no stone unturned in his attempts to exonerate himself and gain his freedom.
