Starting with a single cellist on the floor of the National Air and Space Museum's Milestones of Flight gallery and swelling to 120 musicians, The United States Air Force Band exhilarated museum visitors yesterday with its first-ever flash mob. The four-minute performance featured an original arrangement of "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring/Joy to the World," led by the Band's commander and conductor, Col. Larry H. Lang. Unsuspecting museum visitors including tourists and school groups were astonished as instrumentalists streamed into the gallery from behind airplanes and space capsules, and vocalists burst into song from the Museum's second floor balcony. AWTC opens to enhance AWG’s capabilities
The U.S. Army Asymmetric Warfare Group hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of its Asymmetric Warfare Training Center Jan. 24 at Fort A.P. Hill. Participants included State and local officials from Virginia, representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Training and Doctrine Command, and various others who attended to witness the historic event. The state-of-the-art facility provides a location for the AWG to replicate complex operational environments and develop solutions—which includes exploring adaptive tactics, techniques and procedures. Marines Conduct Raid With Assistance of New Technology
Marines with the Infantry Officer's Course conducted a long range raid on San Clemente Island, Calif., March 24. The Marines were lifted approximately 70 miles off the coast of southern California by Third Marine Aircraft Wing and East Coast aircraft. The Marines also used new technology to plan before boots hit the ground.

Marine Amphibious Landing with Experimental Technology Craft
Live streaming of the Marine amphibious landing during RIMPAC 2014. The Marines will be testing a prototype amphibious vehicle called UHAC (Ultra Heavy-Lift Amphibious Connector). The UHAC will come ashore from the USS Rushmore, July 10, 2014 at Marine Corps Training Area Bellows on Oahu, Hawaii during a Marine Corps Advanced Warfighting Experiment. The AWE is the culmination of a decade of progressive experimentation conducted by the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab (MCWL) where they are testing potential future technologies, solutions and concepts to future Marine Air Ground Task Force challenges. The AWE is taking part during the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise 2014. Lt. Col. Don Gordon, the current technology officer at MCWL, said the UHAC is one of those experimental technologies that displays a possible capability of being able to insert Marines in areas where current technology wouldn’t be able to insert them based on current systems that are fielded. The UHAC prototype is a ship-to-shore connector and is half the size of the intended machine. Currently, the UHAC travels at four knots using a track system with floatation-like pads that propels itself through different terrain.

The LS3 is experimental technology being tested by the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab as part of the Advanced Warfighting Experiment during Rim of the Pacific 2014. There are multiple technologies being tested during RIMPAC, the largest maritime exercise in the Pacific region. This year's RIMPAC features 22 countries and around 25,000 people.

On 19 July, 2014, Black Sea Rotational Force's (BSRF) 14.2 Combat Camera produced a video highlighting Marines attached to Conus Based Air Alert Force from 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, as they deployed to Bulgaria with BSRF-14 in support of Platinum Lion 14-1. Additional Contour footage provided by Lance Corporals Ryan Witkowski and Joshua Stone, Riflemen, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment. Street Angels: A Child’s View of Kabul
A project run by the French Institute in Kabul – street children were given cameras and asked to document their lives from their perspective. The resulting best photos were displayed at an exhibition at the Institute. We follow the children, getting an insight into life working on the street as they try to balance attending school with supporting their families – and see what new opportunities this introduction into the world of photography has given them. Teaser: There are an estimated six million children working part or full time on the streets of Afghanistan. A photography project which gave cameras to some of these children, shows us a unique perspective on their lives.

Marines with 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, Marine Rotational Force – Darwin, and Australian Soldiers with the 5th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, assault an enemy position during Exercise Koolendong at Bradshaw Training Area, Aug 21, 2014. Four Marines with 1st Bn., 5th Marines, were given an opportunity to support elements of the 5th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment and 1st Armored Brigade. During Exercise Koolendong 2014, approximately 1500 Marines and Australian Defence Force soldiers will undertake a wide spectrum of infantry training activities to include establishing an expeditionary operating base in austere conditions, company-sized helicopter and ground live-fire ranges.
