Spring temperatures across nearly every major US city have risen by an average of 2.6°F since 1970, with the Southwest experiencing the most significant warming at 3.4°F. Human-caused climate change, primarily from fossil fuel burning, is the main driver, accounting for at least half the warming in 98% of cities. Winters have also warmed, with the Upper Midwest seeing the biggest jumps, up to 5.4°F.
