Show Notes

On March 31, 1995, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, the Queen of Tejano Music, was tragically shot and killed by Yolanda Saldívar, the manager of her fan club and boutiques. The shooting occurred after a dispute at a Days Inn motel. Saldívar held herself hostage for nine hours, claiming the gun was for her own suicide. Selenas music, which blended Tejano, pop, and cumbia, had a massive impact on the early nineties scene. Saldívar was convicted of first-degree murder in October 1995 and sentenced to life with parole eligibility after thirty years. Despite her death, Selenas legacy continues to shine, with her English album Dreaming of You topping the charts and her story inspiring new fans worldwide.
