Jeffrey Michael Kelly, a 61-year-old man accused of firing shots at a Democratic Party office in Tempe, has had his ankle monitor removed due to health issues. Kelly, who faces serious felony charges including terrorism, was arrested in October 2024 and held on high bonds before being released on November 27th with strict rules. While in jail, Kelly contracted COVID-19 and developed atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat, which his lawyer argued was exacerbated by the ankle monitor. The monitor blocked needed tests and drug checks for heart surgery. Kellys next court date is March 17th, with trial set for April 21st in Maricopa County Superior Court.
