Cicada, a new COVID variant, is spreading across 25 U.S. states and being monitored globally. Originating in South Africa, its distinct from JN point one and may not be fully protected against by past vaccines or infections. Currently making up 11% of U.S. cases, its not causing significant waves yet. Experts like David Engelthaler from Arizona State University report no signs of it in Arizona, but its been spotted in nearby states. Symptoms are mild, and transmission is low. Future vaccines may target this variant. Stay home if youre feeling unwell to prevent spread.
