बिहारी का जन्म 1595 में ग्वालियर में हुआ था। 1663 मंे इनका देहावसान हुआ।
बिहारी मुख्य रूप से शृंगारपरक दोहों के लिए जाने जाते हैं, किंतु उन्होंने लोक-व्यवहार, नीति ज्ञान आदि विषयों पर भी लिखा है। संकलित दोहों में सभी प्रकार की छटाएँ हंै। बिहारी कम-से-कम शब्दों में अधिक-से-अधिक अर्थ भरने की कला में निपुण थे।
