Mega64 Movie Club

Last week we said we'd watch The Whale. But it wasn't widely available to watch at home, which was lame. So we pivoted to another film rife with Oscar accolades- Tommy Boy, the 90s comedy with Chris Farley and David Spade! Who here embraced it in their youth and who here never saw it at all?

Excuse me? Are we rowin? Are we feckin rowin right now? Let's put our differences aside and watch Banshees of Inisherin for this week's Movie Club! This movie about an EXTREME misunderstanding between two friends in Ireland has lots of Oscar buzz, so we set out to see if we can connect with it ourselves before anyone does any bodily damage.

We watched the bizarre, creepy Spanish thriller "The Platform." Was it a connectable tale about societal structures, or was it a gross slab of food scraps? Didn't we just do this episode? Like, yesterday? Oh, silly us! We're just watching and talking about Groundhog Day, one of the most iconic Bill Murray movies about one day repeating forever. We all saw this when we were younger, but haven't revisited it in a good while. Want to see what we thought? We got you, babe!

It's Oscar season (or it was when we recorded this), so we might as well start diving into the good stuff now and see some long, quiet movies about music composers. None of us had seen (or knew anything about) Tar (2022), but it's got some awards season buzz, so we figured it was time to give it a watch. Who will enjoy it? Who won't? And who's cancelled?

Our friends urged us to see it. YOU insisted we see it. So... we saw it. And what do we even say here? There's so much to touch on- fire, water, bullets, tigers- just about everything ever made shows up at some point in this 3+ hour Indian epic. And this episode's length is equally as vast!
