I'm Dr. F Perry Wilson and this is the Medscape medical minute From 2000 to 2014, alcohol was the most common illicit substance that led adolescents to contact a poison control center. Not anymore. According to research which analyzed over 300,000 calls to help lines, cannabis has taken the number one spot for poisoning concerns among teens. Cannabis calls have risen by 245% in the past 20 years. The researcher said many of the helpline calls involve edible cannabis. There is growing interest in the possible use of voice as a biomarker for disease. Researchers involved in the NIH "voice as a biomarker" project say that voice changes can indicate a range of conditions. One researcher said that all it takes to get a voice analysis is a smart phone. Over the next four years, The Voice as a biomarker researchers will receive nearly $18 million and hope to gather 20 to 30,000 Voice samples to study. A study in the BMJ found there's been a significant increase in early onset type two diabetes in teens and young adults around the world. The Study found these increases have come in particular in nations with low ,middle and intermediate social demographic indices and in women under 30.
