Main Idea: In this passage, Matthew recounts two kinds of reactions to Jesus's birth to give examples of both wise and foolish responses to the arrival of the promised King, so that we would be encouraged to trust in and worship Jesus, and warned against any kind of rejection of Him.
The Wise Response: Worship (vv. 1-2)
The Foolish Response: War (vv. 3-6)
a) Herod's response: Plotting (vv. 3-4)
b) Jerusalem’s response: Worry (v. 3)
c) The chief priests’ and scribes’ response: Apathy (vv. 5-6)
