Show Notes
Still in Florida mode after the 2021 Mecum Kissimmee auction, hosts Matt Avery and John Kraman keep their attention on the Sunshine State with a special visit to the nearby National Parts Depot facility. But, before they do, the pair jumps right into the latest car news, including some that was just made at the Mecum event. Kendall announced that its radical Kendall Custom 1967 Mustang will be crossing the block at the 2022 Mecum Kissimmee auction with all proceeds going to Curing Kids Cancer, Mecum Auctions' charity of choice. You'll be able to get an up-close look at it in the Kendall booth at all the Mecum auctions between now and then. Other news made at the auction include the astronomical figure the 1965 Shelby 427 Cobra owned by Carroll Shelby himself brought when it crossed the block. Matt and John discuss the final $5.94 million sale price and some of the vehicle’s extreme significance to the motoring community. Wrapping up, John dishes on some dino-themed truck news in the form of a possible Raptor contender that will do battle with Ram’s large and in-charge TRX off-road pickup.
In the second segment, the guys are on the move, this time setting up shop at NPD’s Ocala location. Joining them is National Parts Depot Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Schmidt. The reason for the visit is to see Schmidt’s ultra-rare collection of ultra-low-mileage classics firsthand. It’s truly a treasure trove of time-capsule vehicles, in some cases boasting single digits on the odometer. Matt and John find out more about the collection’s origins and share some of their personal highlights.
Rounding out the episode, Matt sits down for a special one-on-one conversation with Curing Kids Cancer Co-Founder and President Grainne Owen. He hears how personal pain motivated her to launch the organization, how a custom motorcycle connected her with Dana Mecum, and how much they’ve grown in recent years, including some very recent donations they’ve been able to make to the medical community to continue the quest to find a cure for the deadly disease that affects so many.
