Consumer NZ is adding new criteria to its product rating scores.
Lifetime performance scores will include reliability and repairability.
This is the biggest change to the consumer watchdog's rating in 50 years.
Many modern appliances worked well when they were new, but some of them were not built to last according to Consumer NZ product test manager Paul Smith.
He joined Simon Barnett & James Daniels to talk about the changes.
