A youth accused of fatally stabbed Zion Purukamu has made his first appearance in youth court today.
Purukamu died after being injured at a party in Fendalton on Friday night.
Two other youths were also stabbed (aged 14 and 17) who are in a serious condition in Christchurch Hospital.
The accused has entered 3 not guilty pleas and trial by jury. The case will now be transferred to the high court.
Simon Barnett and James Daniels spoke to NZ Herald Senior Reporter Anna Leask about the first court appearance and whether there is a rise in violent crime.
