Ep. 114 - The Friendzone Debate: You're Incorrect, But I Still Like You...as a friend.
ERoger is back to debate whether or not the Friend Zone exists. We talk about meeting one of the stars from Aliens, playing an Aliens RPG, and realizing that taking a second to Google the Phantom Zone shouldn't be an alien concept. Tables get flipped, Hygge is found, and we get one step closer to turning Roger's 7-Date Program for Success into a book or something. Ep. 113 - Romance is Political: Can You Date Outside Your Party?
ESean Ryan of AlphaCounter contacts us from a secret location to chat with Kelley about whether or not people can date someone from a different political party. Tables get flipped over Attack on Titan Season 4 and the crippling depression that comes from using wheel-based age verification widgets. Ep. 112 - Dating in 2021: New Year, Same Pandemic
ERoger returns to help me leaf through stacks of articles about how dating has changed since the pandemic started. We tell you what we really think about Wonder Woman 1984 - spoiler alert, we hated it and rail against it from minute mark 12:30 - 46:40. That's over a half hour of disdain! Tables are flipped over the vaccine roll-out, and we get warm feelings from Flash Gordon and the local Starbucks Baristas. Ep. 111 - Mating Habits Holiday Extravaganza - We're Back!
EWE'RE BACK! Roger returns to help me say F-Off to 2020 and get Mating Habits started again for 2021. We celebrate the Holiday Season talking about awkward gift giving during the holidays with a brand new relationships, renting out movie theaters in the age of pandemic, and a new RPG podcast featuring me! where I play in a GURPS space opera across all times zones. We talk about The Mandalorian Season 2 Finale [SPOILERS FROM MINUTE MARKER 16:05 - 21.58]. Aphrodisiacs aren't really a thing, and in 2021, we're still going to flip tables, but we're going to right them again with reflections of Hygge to end things on a positive note. Ep. 110 – The COVID-19 Episodes – Revolution
EJoe Hogan from the Geektitude and State of the Geek podcasts joins me on this solemn episode of Mating Habits of the Modern Geek. In light of all the terrible things happening in our country (and the world) at the moment, Joe and I stay in our lane and voice our support for the protests and the Black Lives Matter Movement, and then go on to chat about some lighthearted stuff like streaming shows Never Have I Ever and Upload; table-top games like the Kickstarter-only Hel and To Hunt a Killer; and a couple of true-crime podcasts thrown in for good measure. Here are some links to resources and information about the protests, how you can help, and some podcasts by people of color to talk more about the subject in a way that Joe and I cannot - stay safe out there! Ep. 109 – The COVID-19 Episodes – Antibodies
ESean Ryan phones it in from an undisclosed location in his driveway and joins me for talks about missing COVID-19 antibodies, snakes, California, and the problems with podcasting in the age of "Cancel Culture." Sean gets his kid hooked on Sonic the Hedgehog and is one of the only folks still buying Blu-rays...and witness the return of FLIPPING TABLES!
Ep 108Ep. 108 – The COVID-19 Episodes – Isolation
EGeneva and Kevin (formerly Paris and The Business, LLC) join me to discuss what they've been up to during the quarantine. We talk way too long about the Netflix show OBX, give valuable information about Mimics, and discuss the Goofy-Pluto Paradox in Animal Crossing. I don't know where Bermuda is, Kevin doesn't want us to play Monsterhearts 2, and if you don't start taking vaccines, you may fall victim to my blowdarting skills. We also explain why looking at another player's character sheet in Roll20 could be considered by some to be a huge gaming faux pas - you've been warned!
Ep. 107 – The COVID-19 Episodes – Murder Hornets
EIn this episode* JJ and Mark of Atomic Empire (Comics, Games, Toys, and more!) join me to discuss owning a thriving game store during the pandemic, the future of movies and television, and what's in store for The Mandalorian Season 2. I potentially implicate myself in a social-distancing crime; JJ has surprising interactions with loyal customers; and Mark tries to explain to me what's so cool about Boba Fett. Check out Atomic Empire at https://www.atomicempire.com/ *FREE W/ DOWNLOAD: Despite recording in the same house, JJ sometimes sounds like she's in a cave and Mark sounds like he's calling in from the Moon – we are truly living in the future, folks!
Ep. 106 - The COVID-19 Episodes - Forbidden Hugs
EKelley and Andrew are here to occupy an hour of your COVID-19 quarantine with a new episode of Mating Habits. There's no dating advice in this episode, and you can keep your comments about there not being advice in past episodes to yourself, please! We're all out here just doing the best we can and we don't need your sass. Catch Andrew on the byte app at m3jcnv and his new writing project, https://arecipefornarrative.wordpress.com/ Kelley can be found on all other social platforms @kelleydisagrees Mating Habits of the Modern Geek is a comedy advice podcast for geeks, nerds, and the socially niche. Ep.105 - My Fair Andrew: A Spring Novella
EAndrew joins me to give us an update on his My Fair Andrew Journey where we get a play-by-play look into his recent dating endeavors. We chat about the challenges of hiking, getting Lost in Space, and finding A Quiet Place to "Mews" about some Unfortunate Events (see what I did there?). Tables get flipped, you know, the usual. Mating Habits of the Modern Geek is a comedy advice podcast for geeks, nerds, and the socially niche. Copyright Operation Exile, LLC 2018
Ep.104 - Toxic Masculinity: It hurts everyone.
EShafts, Rifts, Pipcorn, and Hamster Anime. This plus a rambling discussion on Toxic Masculinity - what more could you ask for? Paris, The Business, LLC, and I chat about stuff then flip all the tables, as per usual. Mating Habits of the Modern Geek is a comedy advice podcast for geeks, nerds, and the socially niche. Copyright Operation Exile, LLC 2018
Ep.103 - Living Your Best Single Life - Make Yourself More Interesting by Doing What You Love.
EAndrew comes in clutch and helps me record an episode at the last minute about living your best life, not just to appear more interesting to others, but to make your life more fulfilling for you. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN HAPPINESS. We also talk about Black Panther, Destiny, my new obsession with Trailer Park Boys, Pokemon Go, Book Bingo, and a bunch of other stuff. There are new cats, lonely chickens, and we flip tables over shitty self-published Pick Up Artist dicks, and assholes who talk during complicated Pokemon Go Raids. Mating Habits of the Modern Geek is a comedy advice podcast for geeks, nerds, and the socially niche. Copyright Operation Exile, LLC 2018
Ep.102 - Do Online-Only Interactions Sabotage the Dating Experience?
ERoger is back to talk about the New Year's Eves of our past, his exciting adventures into the world of board game development, and we discuss why some people think it's so damn cool to hate holidays. We give a small fan review of The Last Jedi (spoilers abound), The Punisher, and we talk about our love for The Crown. Also, the Black Mirror episode the USS Callister bothered me so much I couldn't sleep! Are online-only interactions killing the excitement and romance of a potential new date? Do we give ourselves too much of an opportunity to mess things up because we don't have to follow normal time constraints? Are we missing out on the other biological signals and cues because we're not occupying the same physical space? Are we being too logical in the absence of the magic of attraction? I don't know, do you? I'm genuinely asking. Tables are flipped over too many promotional emails and filthy articles with such foul language! Ep 101Ep.101 - We're Back! Oh, what a difference a year makes.
EIt's been a whole year since we Mating Habit-ed, but never fear! The show is basically the same as before: We ramble on about geeky things and useless facts well into the first hour, and casually discuss random dating topics eventually. I even fix The Business, LLC's mic 50 minutes into the recording, so what better way to assure you that we're still the same lovable, ASMR-style whispering goofballs that you remember from years past! The show is going to go monthly, and possibly change format multiple times before I make up my mind about how I'd like it to go - much like my real-life dating habits - so please bear with. Happy to be back with you again, and excited about the future!!
Ep.100 - The World's End: No really, it's the fucking apocalypse.
EThis is it! Episode 100 - the final regularly scheduled episode of Mating Habits of the Modern Geek. It's a full house when Em, Andrew Bartlett, Paris, The Business, LLC and Sean Ryan join me to give the show a proper send off. It's loud, chaotic, the cold open is too long, and as per usual, we barely mention dating - you know, a pretty standard show. We do all flip a collective table over the probable end of Western Civilization. As always, we owe everything to the folks who subscribe and listen to the show. It has been an absolute pleasure, and hope to see you over on State of the Geek, We Don't STOP for Chests, Colin!, or any of the other half dozen shows I'll be on. Please stay subscribed to make sure you don't miss out on new sporadic Mating Habits Episodes that will be popping up from time to time. Thank you - Kelley
Ep.99 - Finishing Moves: Score that second date!
EIt's our penultimate episode! Sean Ryan takes a break from daddy detail to chat with me about getting that second date. We spoil the shit out of Walking Dead, talk about Rise of the Tomb Raider, Destiny's Festival of the Lost, and Sean archives the entirety of AlphaCounter.com for prosperity. Tables are flipped and the begging begins in earnest for submissions for the last episode of Mating Habits, where all the hosts will be on hand to answer your questions, give your shoutouts, and bid farewell.
Ep.98 - Level 3-4 Replay: Brave-ing up is Hard to Do.
EEm survives Hurricane Matthew and joins me for our next revisit of episodes 3 and 4 from many moons ago. We talk about how much it sucks to get up the courage to ask someone out on a date, and how bad it feels when they say no. But on a lighter note, we discuss anime, scary shows on the TV, and all the other podcasts I'm in. We flip tables over terrible Trump-positive memes and price gouging during a natural disaster.
Ep.97 - Level 2: "Troll the respawn, Jeremy"
EParis and The Business, LLC help me revisit our first Mating Habits episode together - Episode 2! We change our minds about a couple of things when it comes to where to meet new people that you might want to date. We also talk Rise of Iron, Longmire, and new podcasts. Tables get flipped over ghost tour guides, people who don't like anything, and folks who should know how to act before they leave the house. Check out my new show State of the Geek with Joe Hogan of Geektitude!
Ep.96 - Level 1: Episode 1, 2nd Playthrough
EJoin Andrew and I as we revisit the first-ever episode of Mating Habits, and see what we've learned. We discuss Sausage Party, books, TV shows on Hulu, and we flip tables over bad email etiquette and Pokemon Go's long-lost update.
Ep.95 - Millennials Can't Even with Sex? #WTF?
EParis and The Business, LLC are back to help me figure out what's going on with Millennials and why they're not getting down like they used to in my day. We also talk at length about the failures of Suicide Squad and the DC Movie Universe as a whole, beach trips, German DJ obsessions, and my willingness to give Voyager another try. Tables get flipped, tales get told, get into it.
Ep. 94 - Commitment: Why is it so tough to make one?
ESean Ryan joins me to chat about movies, my ex-husband's ex-wife contacts me, and we discuss what the big deal is about commitment. Tables are flipped over Clint Eastwood and pop-up ads on phones.
Ep.93 - Google-Stalking: To Search or Not to Search
EAndrew spends the week doing fun stuff with me like seeing Ghostbusters and rocking out with Flight of the Conchords. We spoil the hell out of all the movies, including the new Star Trek Beyond, rave about Stranger Things, and squee over all the upcoming movie trailers. We discuss how far is too far when you're Googling people you're interested in, and we flip tables over vaper and shoppers.
Ep.92 - Dating Apps: Pros, Cons, and Whatnots!
EWelcome Dustin Calhoun of the Cock Tales over Cocktails Podcast! He and I discuss all the different dating apps available for our smartphones these days. We also talk cosplay workouts, DC Pride, baby showers, and naked yoga. Also, if you listen to this show, treat yo' self and download the DragonFruit geek dating app IMMEDIATELY! We flip tables over privilege in politics, and play a new game where we talk choose guests for our ideal dinner party. Check out Dustin's show at the link below! Cock Tales over Cocktails! cocktalesovercocktails.com Mating Habits of the Modern Geek: Love and Dating within Your own Species - your comedy source for relationship advice for geeks and nerds
Ep.91 - Boys and Breakups: Do Men Suffer Longer with a Broken Heart?
ESean Ryan and I reluctantly return from an all-too-short break to talk about some interesting findings about how men and women suffer differently from breakups. We discuss my recent success as a damn bass pro, Sean's first Father's Day, "Injustice" in video games, and I get another insulting message from someone on OKC - must be a day that ends in "Y." We play another round of One, True, Three, where I won't tell you who wins...only that she's also incredibly good-looking, and tables get flipped over parking lot etiquette and gold diggers plaguing our streets. Mating Habits of the Modern Geek: Love and Dating within Your own Species - your comedy source for relationship advice for geeks and nerds
Ep.90 - You Pick Two: Movies that Hit or Missed the Mark
EParis and The Business, LLC are back to help me pick out romantic comedies that are both great or terrible examples of how relationships actually work. They've been running in every 5K race in the area, Paris is meeting science celebs and The Business is obsessed with the best Twitter account ever created: Dungeons & Donalds! I've been working like crazy for the past two weeks, which is why this show is late AF! Paris brings us a new game called Fortunately, Unfortunately, and tables get flipped over daily Staples emails, reactions to spoilers, and stupid stolen credit card questions. Mating Habits of the Modern Geek: Love and Dating within Your own Species - your comedy source for relationship advice for geeks and nerds
Ep.89 - The Call-in Special/Cheaters Never Prosper: What is Cheating Anyway?
EGet comfortable because this is a long one. Andrew Bartlett and Sean Ryan help me navigate all the technical difficulties of our first-ever call-in show! We catch up on the Haps, answer an email from one of our favorite listeners, and discuss matters of deception - cheating! I talk for a very long time with Kenny Rotter of Dumbbells and Dragons about his views on the subject of cheating, and we all get to chat with Official PodPal Robbie Polanco, and the mastermind behind the Twitter handle @KelleyFactCheck or "Lies Mating Habits Told me." Sean Ryan claims to have had a call from Sean Lynch of Nerd Church fame, but Andrew and I didn't hear it... so I don't think it actually happened ;) Tables get flipped over over-dramatic fan reactions (MILD SPOILERS FOR GAME OF THRONES AND ARROW), folks who don't know who they're talking to, and stolen Slim Jims. Thanks to everyone who called in and talked with us! Mating Habits of the Modern Geek: Love and Dating within Your own Species - your comedy source for relationship advice for geeks and nerds
Ep.88 - #doghouse: Staying Out of Trouble on Social Media.
EEm is back on American soil and helps me talk through some dos and don'ts when it comes to dating and exposing your social media presence. The internet is forever, and what you post may have an effect on how you're perceived publicly. We also talk about Em's recent trip to Scotland, books, Game of Thrones, and Doctor Strange. We pick our top three survival buddies from popular media, and flip tables over voicemails and TSA. Enjoy! Mating Habits of the Modern Geek: Love and Dating within Your own Species - your comedy source for relationship advice for geeks and nerds.
Ep.87 - Return to the Friendzone: Civil PodWar!
ESean Ryan returns to have a new discussion about the "Friendzone" which I have recently come to believe doesn't actually exist. He and I went in thinking we were going to have a podwar about it, but end up concurring in the end. We spoil the hell out of the season finale of The Walking Dead, squee over the Rogue One trailer, and Sean's on every podcast, and has got a crib up in 'da crib! We play a fun game of One, True, Three that, for reasons, may be my favorite so far. Tables get flipped over cancelled circuses and ad-blocker blockers! Mating Habits of the Modern Geek: Love and Dating within Your own Species - your comedy source for relationship advice for geeks and nerds.
Ep.86 - Fix it or 86 it: When to try and when to say goodbye.
EWelcome back to the podcast! Andrew Bartlett stops by to help me decide whether to "Fix it or 86 it" with all of my hypothetical relationship problems. We discuss what we would do in certain scenarios, and whether or not we would try and repair a relationship, or just end it altogether. Andrew "Rick Rolls" me for April Fools Day and takes what he's learned in My Fair Andrew to the streets! I say goodbye to Trigger Warning: Geeks!, finish every piece of Dragon Age: Inquisition DLC, and do a guest spot on Dumbbells & Dragons! http://dumbbellsanddragons.com We play a new game called Magic Movie Box, and flip tables over HB2, and what it means for the LGBTQ community in North Carolina. Mating Habits of the Modern Geek: Love and Dating within Your own Species - your comedy source for relationship advice for geeks and nerds.
Ep.85 - Highly Sexual Women: The Legend, The Facts, The Stigma.
EParis and The Business, LLC are back to help me talk about how society treats women who are comfortable with their sexuality, how suggesting that women who have sex "as if they're men" is inherently sexist, and how just because a woman has sex freely with multiple people doesn't mean she wants to have sex with you - and that's okay. Paris conquers the climate world by volunteering at museums and giving scientific talks on mountain tops; The Business listens to every podcast imaginable; and I discuss everything from 10 Cloverfield Lane (Guaranteed: SPOILER FREE!), to my love of British panel shows and Richard Herring. We each get to choose a superpower for just one day and tables are flipped over people who are rude to waitstaff, porn addictions, and Millennials telling me to "get informed" at their own peril. Mating Habits of the Modern Geek: Love and Dating within Your own Species - your comedy source for relationship advice for geeks and nerds.
Ep.84 - Love Workout Regimen: Interview with Lindze and Brad Merritt!
EEpisode 84 is chock full of excitement as Sean Ryan and I have the pleasure of interviewing Lindze and Brad Merritt, of Cosplay and Cartoon Network** fame - respectively!! They join us to help discuss ways to keep good geeky relationships strong so that can last; something everyone except me seems to excel at :) Sean suggests that you look for reasons to high-five each other, finishes Assassin's Creed Syndicate, oh, and announces that HE'S GOING TO BE A FATHER! I talk about The VVitch, my feels about 10 Cloverfield Lane, and I officially announce Table-Flip Tuesdays with Andrew "M3JCNV" Bartlett, a bi-weekly addition to the blog. Sean and I play a magical ame of "Would You Rather," where we disagree... and I can't remember that my favorite Dane is from Denmark - sorry Mads. Tables get flipped over "Walking Billboards" and whether or not The Americas are actually two continents. By Sean's estimation, California is it's own continent, so you're not going to want to miss this! **Director, Cartoon Network Game Design - Brad Merritt is an employee of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. Views expressed are my own and do not necessarily reflect views of his employer. Ep.83 - Paranormal Sexual Activity: What's with all the Vampire Books?
EEm and I keep it short and sweet for this post-Valentine's Day episode where we talk about Deadpool, Destiny, and those damn paranormal romance novels that you've seen your girlfriend, sister, even your mom reading all the time! I've been checking out and guesting on new podcasts, watching indy horror films, and Em's Scotland-bound! We share our preferences for which fictional worlds we would like to live in for a week, and tables get flipped over stylists bad business practices, and religious humiliation. Go see Deadpool. Ep.82 - Creating a Welcoming Environment: No One Likes a Gatekeeper.
EAndrew makes it safely into the Mating Habits Studio to help me discuss problematic friends who may be keeping new people from joining your social circle. We go over some tell-tale signs of "Gatekeeping" and how the lack of new people entering your friend groups might have something to do with the unwelcome environment you've unknowingly created. Andrew puts the "fun" in work function and becomes a new uncle! I'm doing guest spots, discovering new podcasts, and watching X-Files. Our Meetup Group, Trigger Warning: Geeks! is in danger, girl - and I don't have a good solution. We did a Periscope thing! Yet another new game, Who's Pickup Line is it Anyway? is the perfect game for live audience participation, and we actually had some live audience participation! We may be Periscoping again in the future, so download the free app to your smart phone and follow @MatingHabits - we'll follow you back, I promise :) Tables are flipped over stupid restaurant policies and folks doing good works for the sole purpose of posting about them on social media. Ep.81 - Two Geeks; One Goal: You Like the Same Person - Now What?
ESean Ryan joins me (in an episode with functioning mics) in figuring out what to do when you and your best friend end up liking the same person. Are there certain rules of etiquette one must follow? Does the Bro-code apply? What about all of your feels? We also catch up on The Haps including video game news, Sean's guest appearance on Whiskey Thursday, my submission to the Anywhere But Here Podcast, how everybody sadly has cancer, and potential bookings for speaking at colleges. 2016 is starting out with a bang! Speaking of bangs, Sean and I play Bang to the Future, where we discuss famous people who are too old for us now (or too dead), but we would use all our time-machine passes going back in time with whom to hook up. We flip tables over Star Wars merchandising, and the fedora-wearing trolls who come out to defend/support the lack of Rey, and other Star Wars-related flips. Links! Ep.80 - Mating Habits Year End Spectacular: It's Been Real, 2015.
E*WARNING #1: The sound quality of this recording is ROUGH. Paris's mic is malfunctioning (or off), I'm having a 2-hour long asthma attack, and I didn't check it like I should have. I apologize for the quality, and offer this solution: Imagine that I am sitting really close to you while we're listening to Paris and The Business, LLC over speakerphone...only you don't get to contribute to the conversation because they don't know you're there. If you have a good imagination, you can get through this one! *Warning #2: We talk about Star Wars: The Force Awakens a lot. If you don't want to be spoiled, please don't listen until after you've seen it. 2015 is almost over, and Paris and The Business join me to say goodbye to an eventful year, talk about Star Wars, The Hateful Eight, brag about our sparrow racing talents in Destiny, and give thanks that Paris is done with classes. We provide some First-Date Triage for when things go horribly wrong on a first date, and a listener shares a first-date experience with us on which we give some perspective. We review the major things that happened to us over the year, and flip tables over the inability to let go and the inability to spell a name correctly. Have a safe and Happy New Year, everyone! Mating Habits of the Modern Geek: Love and Dating within Your own Species - your comedy source for relationship advice for geeks and nerds.
Ep.79 - We Wish You a Merry Geekmas: And a Happy New Nerd!
ESean Ryan of Alpha Counter and the Method to Madness Podcast helps me get ready for the hectic holiday season by joining me for this festive installment of Mating Habits. We discuss my recent break-up, Sean's broken PS3, and how you're a broken human being if you don't think Netflix's Jessica Jones is the best thing since Luke Cage's muscles. We discuss some finer points to navigating the holiday season with your significant others, play a couple rounds of One, True, Three, and flip tables that may or may not contain vegan cookies and almond milk left for Santa. Mating Habits of the Modern Geek: Love and Dating within Your own Species - your comedy source for relationship advice for geeks and nerds.
Ep.78 - Text Etiquette: Bonus! Geekdom's Cutest Boys!
EIt's a holiday week, but Em and I didn't let that stop us from putting out this little gem about texting tips and the cutest boys in geekdom right now. We also talk about RenFaires, Black Friday sales, family woes and sweepstakes winnings. Tables get flipped directly at friends and co-hosts we know and love, and co-workers who don't know how the phones work. Hope you all had a better Thanksgiving holiday than I did, and hope you enjoy this short and sweet episode! Ep.77 - Fun Date Ideas to Rival "Netflix and Chill:" Marry/Shag/Kill Edition
EAndrew travels to the Mating Habits Studios to record a refreshingly light and fun episode...and almost dies in the process! Once the adrenaline wears off, we talk about new jobs, good books, good shows on Netflix, and the 10% drop in Traffic that PornHub experienced when Fallout 4 went live. The results of The Great Pizza Debate are revealed, with a surprise message from our friends Ant and Tom from the Anywhere but Here Podcast. We give you some fun date ideas for those of you who are sick of dinner and a movie, and play our first-ever installment of Marry/Shag/Kill where I try to make Andrew "Kill his Darlings," and he tries to skeeve me out. Tables are flipped, as per usual, over cynicism and Apple iMusic functionality, and the racket that is Hulu Plus. Our thoughts go out to those affected by the attacks in Paris, and we hope you enjoy this fluffy departure, if only for a couple of hours of nonsense. Ep.76 - Paying for Sex: The Ins and Outs of the Adult Entertainment Industry
EPrepare for our triumphant return with an exciting, interview-packed, super-sized episode of Mating Habits! Sean Ryan and I discuss the ins and outs (pun intended) of the adult entertainment industry and how it relates to those of us in the geek community. Some of the things we discuss may be illegal or otherwise not allowed where you live, so take everything we say with a grain of salt - we are not suggesting anyone listening to this show engaging in any illegal acts, nor are we suggesting actually following any of the suggestions we do give. We're not actual life coaches :) I score the interview of the century with everyone's favorite purveyor of all things Japanese, Peter Payne of JList! Peter teaches me about the Japanese attitude of "Shō ga nai," where they've given up on trying to change what people want to do in the privacy of their own homes, and simply say, "It cannot be helped." It's a wonderful philosophy. While you're listening to the interview, please check out JList and all the things (not just the adult stuff) that you can find to satisfy your Japanese cravings:https://jlist.comAnd check out Peter Payne's blog about Japanese culture and more at:https://jlist.com/blog Sean and I also gab about our latest video game obsessions with Transformers: Devastation and Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, how much fun the Supergirl pilot was, and we relive the epic night that was Sean and Vane's Spooky Birthday Party. Tables get flipped over Campbell's Soup potentially ruining Star Wars, and how the only thing you should ever flip are pancakes, scripts, and tables - never teenagers in their desks at school. Ep.75 - The Art of Small Talk: Society's Neccessary Evil
EWe're waterlogged down here in North Carolina, but Paris, The Business, LLC, and I paddled our way through the floods to record another episode of Mating Habits. I had a date night and saw The Martian, Paris and The Business talk about The Awesomes on Hulu, And we're excited about the return of The Muppets. Also, we finally get to squee about The Taken King, since the Destiny Step it Up To the Streets clan is in the house! This episode's topic is Small Talk: Why it's important, how it can help you make better social connections, and ways to keep conversations going when you meet someone new. We flip some serious tables over space invaders, un-American weather models, and gun-control. Ep.74 - Strange Dates: A Mixed Bag of What the Actual Fuck?
ESean Ryan saves my bacon and joins me to share weird and awkward dating stories - Sean's story list consists of famous cousins, dangerous almost-cholas, and disappearing Nigerians. My stories include an in-date level-up and being held hostage at a farmer's market - and strange dating customs from around the world. The universe hates Sean's new car - a lot, and he has Last of Us frustrations...still. We can't get drunk, even at my birthday party; and Wil Wheaton ruins EVERYTHING! Destiny: The Taken King has come out, so basically, my life is suddenly too busy to get a podcast out on time. Tables get flipped over literal "Party Poopers," and how no one on Last of Us has any muscle memory after years of surviving in the clicker-filled post apocalypse. Ep.73 - The Third-Wheel Syndrome: Are You Making it a Crowd?
EEm stops by to help me celebrate my birthday by comparing the pros and cons about what it's like to be a third wheel with all of our couple-friends. We lament over the loss of Hannibal, I misidentify a Singaporean as Chinese for the entire show, Em is excited over her upcoming trip to Scotland, and I watched Europa Report on Netflix with my boyfriend...I think I'm doing this whole "Netflix and Chill" thing all wrong. Tables get flipped over Trumpsters, that bitch who won't do her job, and the jerk who keeps stealing Em's Lean Cuisines. We're coming for you, frozen-dinner thief! Ep.72 - Sex Education: Knowing is Half the Battle!
EJoin Andrew and I (and his new whiney-voiced character which is basically what it sounds like in my head 24/7) as we tackle another relationship-ish topic: Sex Ed. Andrew's Uncle Duties will soon double, and now that Target has blended the genders in their toy departments, he's basically screwed. His recent job interview has him in a suit and puts him in view of an elderly woman - and she likes what she sees. I talk at length about the Ashley Maddison hack that has me rolling on the floor, laughing my ass off at hypocrites like Josh Duggar and Sam Rader, and what a Bro-deo that website must have been. I also have an adorable boyfriend now. He's the best. It's no big deal. *squeeeee* Sex Education in the US is all over the damn place. Andrew and I are from the same decade and the same area, and had vastly different public school sex education experiences. We discuss what subjects worked and didn't work for us as we share how we learned about the birds and the bees. Tables get flipped when Andrew wishes folks would just mind their own damn business, and I just want you to stop yelling at me so I can figure out how to help you. Ep.71 - Enthusiastic Consent: GET HYPE!!
EI infiltrate Alpha Counter Studios and bring Sean and The Business, LLC back for Episode 71 - the one where we cover the controversial topic of Enthusiastic/Affirmative Consent, and why it's important. The Business almost ruins a budding friendship by drunk live tweeting Justice League episodes, and tries to salvage things by inviting his new friend on a beat 'em up side scroller. This is why we can't have nice things. Sean gets sunburned at a crowded bdsm-themed bungalow at the beach and meets a beautiful man named Ram Gabriel. While they were sunning and funning at the beach, I stayed home and had a yard sale - don't be too jealous. And my copies of Exploding Kittens finally got here!! We tackle the idea of enthusiastic and affirmative consent: What is it? Why do we need it? What's with the double standard? What does it say about you, as a person, if the concept of affirmative consent is unacceptable to you? (HINT: If it bothers you too much, you might be part of the problem.) We flip new tables about bad communicators, the impregnable login guards at Steam, and how Trigger Warnings have gotten out of damn hand. Ep.70 - Playing Games Wastes Everyone's Time: Stop Being So Damned Aloof.
EWe made it to Episode 70! It's our 3rd anniversary, and 70 episodes later we're still going strong. We ramble on about Batman: Arkham Knight, my haunted second bedroom, and my dead grandma's new Twitter account. Paris and The Business, LLC talk about their wedding and show unmarried listeners what they have to look forward to when they finally find their true loves. The Business, LLC thinks kids who've lost their hair due to chemotherapy are just Airbenders. and he has concerns about the recently bankrupt 50 Cent. Paris has got all the latest Reddit news and shares her concerns, and we come up with a new teen magazine for Star Wars nerds: PalpaTEEN! For the main topic, we focus specifically on what's been happening in my dating life over the past month and why guys who I'm chatting with seem so aloof and uninterested after the initial online connection. The Business shares some interesting insights as to what might actually be happening, Paris is concerned with why it's always up to the girl to steer the conversation, and I give some advice to guys in the dating world who are striking out and don't know why -- is it because you're doing the things we're talking about? Tables are flipped over smug guys I went out with once or twice two years ago who think I owe them sexting, and Paris is furious about internet trolls who just don't get it. Were taking a small summer break and will return with Episode 71 in three weeks. In the meantime, check out what's shaking over at Alpha Counter, any of the #PodPals podcasts, and please listen to the first episode of Room 173 with M3JCNV - My Fair Andrew's new solo show!
